Do you know any languages apart from English? I know Swahili, French and Polish.

uh... my mother taught me bits and pieces of German.

I've picked up some bits and pieces of French, Spanish, and Russian.

i can also speak like... four or five words in one of the Japanese dialects.

I am Norwegian, I can also speak some German, Polish, Spanish and Russian.

I also know some words in Belarusian.

Aside from French since it's my second native language... I speak some German, some Italian, some Spanish and some Japanese

I used to speak ASL. It was a requirement back in high school. But because I never really used it, I've forgotten most of it.

I would argue the semantics that one may communicate in ASL, but as ASL is a nonverbal method of communicating in English, one is not "speaking" in it.

Now that I am finished being an arsehole, ASL is an exceedingly useful skill to have and I am jealous.

To the topic of discussion, I only speak English at the moment, but I am slowly learning Japanese via Duolingo. it is a very useful site for learning languages. At 45, I've been struggling since I'm not young and things don't soak into the brain meats as quickly as they used to when I was 30 years younger, but despite struggling and mistakes I've been enjoying myself.

ASL is legally recognized as its own language. One of the reasons why the ape sign language project got its funding cut was because the people who were trying to teach apes sign language didn't treat and respect ASL as its own language.

I can also understand, but not speak Gullah.

Big props to you for trying to learn how to speak a new language.

I'm from Poland, so aside from English, I know Polish and bad Polish I knew some German in the past, but I forgot most o fit .
