I have just updated the story description (blurb) for Renaissance Pony. I did this because I felt it just wasn't doing much to interest readers in trying out the first chapter. So I have a question for all of you: what is it about a story listing that catches your eye and gets you to get reading? Is it the artwork, the title, the description, the number of views, thumbs up, thumbs down, listing in a group something else?

Hello all,

I have finally after a few detours put up chapter 4 of Renaissance Pony: Serious Trouble. As Starswirl gets more involved with the science of magic, he discovers that there is a major cartload of the politics of magic trundeling along just behind and definitely within smelling range.

Oh, and for those of you who were wondering about his reputed amorous preferences, well that's part of this chapter as well.

Chapter three of Renaissance Pony is posted. Starswirl and Luna meet. Just keep in mind, this is before the split between the royal sisters. Don't get in an uproar about the 1000 years beween that event and the 'present' in FIM (Starswirl's "birth as a pony" would be just short of 500 years ago). In a subsequent chapter (ooh, foreshadowing!) we'll have fun with time. Admit it, you saw season two episode twenty - you knew this was coming.

Today my theme is, wait for it... choices. (Yeah, it was in the blog title. Sigh.)

I am now torn between writing new chapters of Renaissance Pony, and writing more Mankind Triumpohant - Relic. Both have been enormously satisfying for me to write so far, and I've gotten good comments on both. But man, I hate having to split my very limited writing time between two fics. Choices. Do each one more slowly, or put one on hiatus while I finish the other? Choices.

I wasn't sure I would do more chapters as the material is darker than what I usually like, but I had to do chapter 2 as I had already thought a lot about it while doing chapter 1.

Hello friends,

I am a big fan of Chatoyance and highly recommend anything she's written. Recently I read her Conversion Bureau story Brand New Universe Chapter 7: Mankind Triumphant. It affected me deeply. It was a significant departure from her usual style in that it did not have a happy ending for ponykind and their princesses. In fact it contained many very disturbing images more in line with the horror genre. It really bothered me and I kept thinking about it.

I have just completed my second fanfic, "The Good of the Many". Actually, I started writing TGOTM before I did "The Vacation Crew" for the February Write-off, which is my first completed fic.

As when I finished TVC, I will not change its substance (plot), but I may rework chapters to improve the writing, and readability, and to fix any inconsistencies I or my readers will find.

Chapter 6 was a challenge, but I am really happy with how it developed. Having parallel characters as well as situations is both constraining and a great opportunity for a few laughs! In the next chapter we finally get back to Celestia's PoV, and more is revealed of her (and Luna's) past as well as their place in the universe, and how they shaped politics and life in Equestria.
