To end out a month of "If I had a nickel for every time this happened, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice," I'm going to bring out two real powerhouse authors.

The theme this week? Something I'll have to actually spoiler to preserve the stories themselves. But for those doubling back, it's stories in which characters in a cast gradually disappear.

After last week being so heavy and dark, this week I'm going for far more cheery fare. In specific, this week's weird connection is 'stories in which Derpy stares down a demigod to get her daughter the best Hearth's Warming present.'

And the first of those stories would be When We Took Back the Stars by Dubs Rewatcher

As a warning to start: both stories this week are M-rated, folks, and neither is kidding. Not work safe ahead.

Now, with that out of the way! Continuing the theme of story connections you wouldn't expect, this week we have a messy one - 'stories where Shining Armor becomes a doctor for the express purpose of inflicting harm on others'.

Yeah, buckle in, it's gonna be those kinds of stories. Multiple red tags meant very strongly.

Author's Quarterly Update: Summer 2022 · 8:13pm Jul 9th, 2022

So a quarter more's passed and life (and writing) is starting to get back on track.

On the personal front: my wife's healing well and is actually due to head back to work soon. She's still significantly slowed by her injuries, but the physical therapy's helped a lot and she's getting more and more functionality every day. Stairs are still a major problem, though.

Normally, I pick stories to use that have a thematic connection: the same main character, similar thematic notes, so on. This month I'm gonna have a bit of fun and pull out story sets that have really weird connections. This week is a perfect example: two horror stories about hugs.

Those paying attention to American news the last few days probably don't need context as to why I chose today's two pieces. I'll leave my statements at that, and that a bit of catharsis does a person good.

Today's lead (and the more serious) story is Diplomacy Has Failed by single-story author Cythonna.

Hey.

Hey Sledge.

Happy birthday, ya knob. Have some Luna stories.

The first is one I've wanted to feature for quite a while, and this is a great excuse for it: Forbidden Melodies by Rego.

Pets are an important part of our lives - as Groucho Marx said, “A book is man’s best friend outside of a dog, and inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.” I'm sure nearly all of us could talk for hours on the habits and stories of our favorite pets. And just as long spent wistfully remembering that they've left our lives.

I'm feeling a bit melancholy today, so I think I'm gonna use one of the story pairs I've had in reserve for a while. The set is based around the tragedy of the top - so many major characters (and not just pony - it's a common phenomenon) are at or near the peak of their chosen field. And that can easily be a bad thing.

So I'm a bit delayed today because I couldn't handle this on my lunch hour - I needed to get home first and grab an image or two. Since, well.
