Nightmare Moon was driven from the sky and banished to the Northern Wastelands.

But something happened which Celestia did not foresee... The Crystal Empire has returned, and Emperor Sombra is prepared to do battle against Equestria once again. But this time, he has a new ally, the most brilliant general in all the world. This time he has Nightmare Moon.

The Crystal War rages on, and Sombra's counter-offensive has left your division stranded. The Siege of Manehattan has caused heavy losses, and even Sergeant Dash injured her wing in an airstrike. Celestia has been banished to the sun for a thousand years, and Emperor Sombra rules from his iron throne in Canterlot. After the defeat, Crystal War veteran Rainbow Dash is trying to make her way in this dark new world. Operating her small airship The Alicorn, she and her rag-tag crewmates will take any job, legal or not, to keep food on the table and fuel in the tanks.
