One week ago today I was let go from my job.

I've been expecting it for a while now (decreasing workload, cutting costs, etc). While my current job hunt takes priority, I will still make the most of my free time to create, whether it be drawing or writing.

RariJack aside, Rollercoaster of Friendship was a disappointment for me. I AM however, VERY intrigued by the next EqG special previewed at SDCC!

What got my attention from the get-go: MORE CRYSTAL PREP! And indeed, the academy is actually revisited at one point. I was surprised to learn in Chapter 3 that Cinch is STILL the Principal, and Cadance still the Dean. Maybe ol' Abacus has not been relieved of her duties as of yet (chronology comments below). I can't help but laugh at how she is described as a "small, serious woman" in this book.

Ever since I read A Friendship to Remember, I've been curious to see how the story would be adapted to animation. I admired the expansion of the lore and the world building. Needless to say, I'm happy to see the franchise get its obligatory beach episode. More Trixie never hurts either. The magical threat this time around was definitely the most insidious to date, even if just one step away from the mind control of the first two movies. This past weekend, I attended my second - and sadly, final - Equestria L.A.

The highlight of Friday was the "Popcorn Party" which was listed in the schedule as a screening of several episodes with complimentary popcorn. Needless to say, the free popcorn was the big draw, and a major hint at what the "party" was revealed to be...A SURPRISE SCREENING OF THE MOVIE! Needless to say, everyone in the room was ecstatic.

Fate threw me for a loop this past August. First, my condo's air conditioner broke down and had to be replaced, then so did my Windows desktop of 12 years. I'm currently working from my new MacBook Pro, which I got so I can keep using my Adobe Photoshop CS5. Unfortunately, the Lexmark all-in-one I've been using as my scanner is incompatible with Mac OS Sierra. With all the expenses I've incurred, it'll be a while before I get me a new scanner.

The last time I was in San Diego was almost 10 years ago - the last time I attended Comic Con International (when you could still reg at the door). It was nice to drive down here this past weekend for PPC. Personally, I preferred the Kona Kai resort that hosted last year's event, but the Wyndham Bayside was a nice venue. Parking was a minor buzzkill (no validation this time), but I did enjoy being within walking distance of a Jack In The Box.

I currently find myself at an impasse writing my third Equestria Girls belly dance-themed story. The core concept is that a few of the Shadow Five discover Dean Cadance’s belly dancing hobby and find themselves wondering whether to out her. More than anything, it would be a deeper exploration into some of the stereotypes and misconceptions of belly dancers (i.e. that they are strippers, dancing for male gratification, etc).

My first exposure to MLP:FiM was at Anime Expo 2011, when a Rarity cosplayer stopped by my Artist Alley table. I didn't think much about it until several months later, when I happened upon a clip from The Return of Harmony Part 2.

In less than a week, I binged all of Season One on Netflix, and the rest is history. MLP:FiM and Equestria Girls have since fueled my imagination like nothing ever has before.
