The Force is the Force, of course, of course, and no one can horse with the Force of course--that is of course unless the horse is the Jedi Master, Ed ("Stay away from the Dark Side, Willlburrrr...")!

The transcendence of buttered oranges. · 2:56am Apr 14th, 2014

What have I been doing since I'm not writing much? Well...

Yesterday I had to come up with a side-dish for roast lamb. For sixty people. A vegetable would have been nice but all I had on hand was a box of juice oranges, ugly and mottled. And lots of cinnamon, some sugar, and some butter.

Bad Horse has a new story up and...oh, now--COME OUT FROM UNDER THE BED! · 2:07am Apr 10th, 2014

There's nothing to be scared of, really. It's called "Experience." No gore, tragedy, asteroids, or even Space Invaders. Celestia and Twilight Sparkle watch the sun rise. That's it.

The ending is poignant, low key and really quite sweet. Which for Bad Horse is a diabolical twist. I was expecting that, instead of the sun rising, he was at least going to give us Discord singing "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Some people do this thing called an "age run." That's where you run a mile for every year you're old. Typically on your birthday.

So today was my birthday and...shyeah, right.

Still I managed an age run of sorts: one minute for every year I've been alive. It put me, oh, about a microwave dinner shy of an hour. I think I did four miles.

"...as the day caves in/ And the night is all wrong." · 2:26am Apr 3rd, 2014

So he binds himself
To the galloping mare
And she binds herself
To the rider there
And there is no space
But there's left and right
And there is no time
But there's day and night

And he leans on her neck
And he whispers low:
"Whither thou goest
I will go"
And they turn as one
And they head for the plain
No need for the whip
Ah, no need for the rein

...And they're gone like the smoke,

And Mel Brooks as Einstein. How can you beat that? · 2:30am Apr 2nd, 2014

I have to give Sherman and Peabody a thumbs-up. Farcing out a five-minute Jay Ward cartoon to feature length may or may not be your thing, but the voices are note-perfect, the deadpan and deadly-pun humor of the original carries over nicely ("Shermanicus" --!!), and Patrick Warburton's every line is pure gold.

Pinky Pie (tie with She's an Angel):

Do you sing like Olive Oyl on purpose?
You guys must be into the Eurythmics!...

And now she's four years gone,
She's five feet tall and sick of me
And all my rattlin' on...

The spoken word as musical instrument · 2:54am Mar 27th, 2014

If you could choose any voice to read “The Cremation of Sam McGee” aloud, whose would you pick?

The best answer always has this bit of genius about it: nobody would think of it in a million years--until someone does, and then everybody else goes “D’OH! Why didn’t I think of that?”

You have come by way of tears,
But you'll reach your destiny
