I feel as if (I have only gotten to chapter 65) that the current state of the world and the factions distinctly forming within it are very close to those in WW1/WW2, with Leona/the Gryphons being closer to Germany in WW1 rather than WW2 (though still sharing some ideals), Equestria and its allies threatening full marxist revolt, and the Dragons being closer to the japanese (going full isolationist -> expansionist upon the realisation old-world powers (such as Celestia dying) would mean that they're no longer directly at threat of being instantly curbstomped. Definitely feels like a good setup, and uses very very good worldbuilding to illustrate the conflict on both a macro and micro scale.
Of course, there are still a ton of very major differences that may change how this actually plays out in the end; e.g many of these factions have their ideals radically altered to account for the different world and will likely play out way differently in execution.
Overall, a very good story thusfar, and definitely deserves all the praise it has gotten thusfar. It portrays a world from a genuine sociopath's point of view, who has barely begun to understand themselves, the people around them, and the consequences of their actions; atop of how it illustrates the burden of rule, through characters like Celestia/etc.

Knowing the stuff that happens after directly after chapter 65, bits of the second part of your comment are quite ironic... Heheheheeeeeeee >:3
Glad you're enjoying so farrrrr! :3
Nice Fort Pitt ref (which was a star fort - not sure about Fort Duquesne) ...

I can certainly see what you mean, snerk.
Though I still feel it holds quite true :3
It wouldn't surprise me if at some point, Leona realises how much she's truly fucked up Diamond Tiara. They went from petty crime, to arson, and now Leona's had to split the maid that her wife was molesting wide open, just to protect DT; with the PTSD and remorse she's suffering being a clear example of that.
The poor girl didn't deserve any of that, and Leona knows it. Hence why the 'second only death she's ever cried for' line goes so hard. Wouldn't surprise me if DT has to get put in-line sooner or later... Then again, the power and responsibility of rule is clearly going to both of their heads, and poor Celestia too, a ket addict.

As for Maria, let's not forget the fact that Leona stabbed her father during an armed robbery then dragged his name through the mud
:3
The closing sequence at the ending of that chapter is definitely one of my favorite scenes in terms of the symbolism and irony involved :p
