She scowled. ‘I don’t like it.’
‘I dunno,’ said Bright Mac, ‘it had a ring to it.’
Twilight was smiling so hard she could burst.
‘And you can be quiet, and all.’
But of course Twilight was right, and Granny Smith she became, and when the bundle of red fur began to squeal in her hooves, she found she didn’t mind it too terribly much.
‘Just don’t you start,’ she warned Twilight, in bed. ‘I ain’t having you calling me that.’
Twilight kissed her, and turned out the light.
‘I love you.’
‘I love you.’
‘I love you.’

and in the last chapter, Smith becomes Granny Smith, and she is right. this Twilight never calls her that.

by the way, the steadying did nothing. i had to look away to cry. i couldn't even look at anything, just covered my face and cried and cried until the feelings passed because i just couldn't take the three ‘I love you.’s in the end there.
