The Door

It was while cleaning the library that she met it the next time. Her feathery duster moved away from the empty shelf she'd just worked on, and her eyes fell on the space between two bookcases, now occupied by the door.

Twilight paused. Eyes locked on it, she slowly backed away from the wall, set the duster down, and finally sat in the middle of the room, facing the door. She was interested in its behaviour.

Not that its contents didn't interest her, but there was something about the way the door seemed to act. Almost like it was playing a game. She wanted to study that.

Slowly, she stood back up. The library felt oddly empty, with all the books removed. Colder, even. Eyes locked on the door, she passed behind a bookcase. When she came out, the door was gone.

Playtime was over, for a while.
