The Door

The door had followed her to sleep that day. It had replaced her bedroom's only exit, and had seemingly no intention to leave. And so Twilight was stuck there, tucked in her bed, with the door staring at her.

She couldn't sleep like that. She tried to cover her eyes with her blankets, then a moment later looked over them. And the door was still there. She didn't want to sleep like that. She didn't trust the door. She didn't trust it.

She kept staring at it, without closing her eyes. She wouldn't give in. She couldn't risk it. It was still there, and it didn't want to go away. She couldn't risk it.

She never did realise whether she'd fallen asleep or merely blinked, or if she'd seen it disappear and forgotten. But when the morning came she realised she was there staring, and the door was not. Not anymore, at least.
