Am I the only one who is really starting to dislike the Equestrians? The humans haven't been acting like savages. In fact, the whole 'hostage situation' would have gone far better if the captain had stopped antagonizing the one holding the knife, they hadn't attacked Jackie, and if Princess Luna hadn't tried to disarm a frightened individual in a hostage situation. The humans also had one of their own cut in half, people murdered in their beds (I think?), the Equestrians intercepting their communications, and they have lost one of their armored vehicles. That doesn't paint a good picture, at all.
Furthermore, Applejack and the lot of them seem to have forgotten the fact that the captain and his group apparently threatened violence if the humans did not comply. It doesn't sound like they simply asked the humans to "explain themselves" like Applejack seems to believe. Threatening violence against a group that has already lost some of their own due to the Equestrians.
The human's fear and hostility towards the Equestrians is understandable. If anyone is acting like savages it's the Equestrians and they seem completely incapable of understanding that. The humans were attacked unprovoked in a strange land. The Equestrians need to drop their arrogant, self-righteous attitude for a moment and take a step back to access (and address) the situation properly.
Good story though, and I await the next chapter.

Indeed. The point of perspective between the two races are more than very skewed. The equestrians are denying the former captain styders actions as their own will. But this does nothing for the humans whove had to bury their friends. The Equestrians recognise this as a tragity, but due to not having this sort of thing happen very often, or rather, at all. are incapible of understanding the raw emotion and anger that is flowing through the humans veins at present. The whole situation is a powder keg. And the Equestrians are expecting the humans to respond with. "Oh. Ok it wasnt your fault. Its unfortunate but. No worries". And only princess Luna understands just how bad the situation can get, having dreamwalked though a humans dream or rather nightmare of the movie "fury". Moving on she went memory diving and found out about ww1 and 2. As well as seeing the weapons of mass destruction our species have made. But a certain group of humans plan to rock the Equestrians world. And have the means to do it... stay tuned... for a series of dire and rather unfortunate events...

Then the Equestrians better hope to God that the humans don't band together, get properly organized, and start truly trying to ruin their day. It wouldn't end well for either party.
That said though, the humans really should think about properly establishing themselves. With 6000~ humans in a foreign land they should consider the future of their species in this world. Probably not right at the moment due to all of the... unpleasantness that has gone on, but something to keep in mind.
Could the humans possibly find allies in the other nations since the relations with Equestria have soured? The human's technology could be very valuable, and I doubt that Equestria is on good terms with every nation if how they've handled this debacle is any indication.
The Equestrians would have a massive problem if the humans shared their technology with another nation and gained access to their industry. If the humans had access to the manufacturing capability (if it isn't too primitive) of another nation then they could possibly create real ammunition rather than the paintballs they are using at the moment. Granted, I'm unsure if their vehicles and guns as they are now are capable of withstanding the pressure created by using real ammunition but if their equipment was created to the exact specifications of the real stuff, who knows?
Just speculating anyway, eager to see where this goes no matter where the plot ends up.
So far so good, only the last bit about Clarkson has me wondering wtf? I was expecting an interesting bit with the crusaders and the humans interacting, and maybe one of the humans turning rabid... but this is out of nowhere and I hope gets expounded with more than flashback.

If these are paintballers, where is all this high-tech armor coming from?

The high tect armour is both a way of protecting the contestants and eliminating cheating as an option to them. Its also a method of highlighting friend from foe, as their helmets protective visor shows friendly and allied forces ID tags.

I have an explanation coming... and yes. Each government funds their respective team, with a hanfull of deep pocketed investors helping. And the spectatirs fees and purchesases money goes into the contestants pockets.
