This is so satisfying. Jet Fuel got what was coming to him, the not-resolution with Blue feels so organically awkward that it works really well. And Rarity getting the chance to actually enjoy the town and make real friends in the year after the fix is such a good, comforting reward for all she went through that I almost cried reading her casual chat with Moss. And even though Moss doesn't know it, it's such a sweet reward for her, too. I love this. I love this, I love this, I love this.
Shit, one year and sixty thousand words flew right by.
Twilight....
Well, you clearly haven't.
Oh Rarity...your generosity knows no bounds.
You will all remember...also you have a space here.
Never.
Baby steps Rarity...baby steps.
You will see her...all of them.
That it isn't.
And it looks like Ink did.
.
MOSS!!!
Yes you are Rarity.
Rarity, how unladylike of you!!!
!!!
That pancakes are!!!
Yes, sill you!!!
Oh Moss....
You'll make us all cry!!!
Now she can't!!!
And if she doesn't, I'll sock her!!!
You don't need to be friends, but you don't need to be enemies neither.
Why do you think?
It's better than way anyway.
!!!
Like an Angel of Rainbows...!!!
By Faust herself!!!
And wait for you she did!!!
Best friends to the very end!!!
Change in style, eh Rarity?
SHIIIIIIP!!!
SHIIIIIIIIP!!!
In the Embrace of the Desert....
At first, I wasn't sure what to make of this. Rarity came off as very much unlike herself, and I thought the plot was unfocused, trying to do too many different things at once. Was this going to be primarily a mystery about the town? A story about Rarity's relationship with Nightwhisper? With Rainbow? But your prose, as I've come to expect from a few examples, was very evocative while still being compact, which I always appreciate. So, I kept reading. And, well, it all came together once I realized Rarity rediscovering herself is the central theme tying it all together. While perhaps a bit too dark to be the Equestria we're accustomed with, otherwise, you succeeded in composing a believable tale of mistakes, heartbreak, love, and forgiveness.
aaaaargh how can there not be more
This was absolutely fantastic. On this hell-site, there are very few mature stories worth reading. I'm glad to saw that this was one of the exceptions, and I am so ready to be hooked on the next installment. You deliver a very powerful narration that's just brimming with an inviting, intense emotional journey. I can't wait for more!
This story deserves a much higher view count. I think you really nailed the ending. So many stories like this, ones that use a mysterious/paranormal/surreal plot device, seem to stumble in the end. Either they fail to explain the mystery, which is unsatisfying, or reveal/explain too much and rob the sense of mystery from the story. This story threads that needle- I felt like I had enough info for the puzzle to come together, but it didn't get bogged down in exposition dumps, or try to justify each detail of how the time loops worked or the sudden changes of setting. It all just hung together really well.
fantastic read. i loved the disorienting vibe of the beginning, how it built into a real dread that drove a wedge between rarity and dash that only made them cling closer. the climax and realisation of twilight's botched attempt at laying claim to a domain she doesn't yet understand, one that by nature will only ever slip out of her grip like sand, is great drama... the cult angle for the dusk guardians felt a bit thin but i didn't mind, it's just part of the small desert town vibes. the ending is exactly what i wanted, a quiet and warm resolution, a nightmare made hopeful by shared acknowledgement. (rainity? rararity? raridash?) feels rare but is always fun, i love how you depicted their commonalities in giving too much.
thanks for writing such a good story!!
