Chapter 22
2 Sides Of The Coin

*Location: Earth, Canternlot Park, Day 1 of festival*

Every year the Festival of Life is celebrated with a lot of anticipation. It's a holiday associated with remembering those who had fallen to protect peace in the world, random acts of kindness and helping strangers. It is officially celebrated over five days, but preparations normally start weeks before.

Right now, as many people laughed and talked, many played the variety of games and stands available, two people moved through the crowd. Valkyr was wearing a black skirt with a black jacket, underneath she wore an orange shirt and had orange and black shoes.

Nekros walked beside her, his usual black and grey attire clothing him in almost every shadow as his frown hid behind a black cloth around his mouth.

“So… what shall we do first!?” Valkyr asked as they stopped and Nekros glanced around, his mind still on the conversation a while ago

Before…

“So, you sure you got this? I mean, we can’t really back out now,” A voice in Nekros’s head said with concern

“Well, what are we supposed to do? Just cut her down like a corpus scum!?” Another yelled as they all glanced at Valkyr as she waited for an answer, her face red as an apple

“Fuck it! Just-just say yes! It’s not like you don’t li-“The voice was silenced as something knocked it out

“Just say yes,” another responded as the sound of muffled screams could be heard

“I think we should try the shooting range, either that or continue to browse the stalls,” Nekros suggested as Valkyr nodded as they walked over, but just out of the corner of Nekros’s eye he could see the shadows following him

“Well, you haven’t fucked up yet, so that’s a start,” The voice of Excalibur said through the earpiece as the sound of two others fighting came onto the mic

“Hey! Stop pushing! It’s not a movie, you know!?” Snapped Nox as two slaps echoed out and both him and the voice of Volt groaned

“Will you two stop bickering? I doubt Nekros likes this,” Frost responded as the two stopped arguing “How are things going?”

“Smooth-ish,” Nekros whispered as Valkyr pulled at his jacket

“What’s up…” Nekros trailed off as he saw the score had beaten the high score of everyone else, many looked stunned as she grinned, her eyes half-lidded

“Try beat that, reaper?” She dared as Nekros just huffed and grabbed the gun waiting on the desk as the game came to life, it was a simple point and shoot, so not anything he couldn’t handle

Nekros waited as his eyes narrowed and his gripped tightened and then the gun shot sounded and the target began to move, he quickly gunned them down at blinding speeds, but not too fast to raise suspicion, as his eyes acted like homing beacons and he turned like clockwork as they got faster and faster.

Then he saw a golden figure dashing across the top, then disappeared into a tunnel and out the middle, so he waited for it, many watched as it vanished and appeared at the bottom, it neared the final tunnel.

*BANG*

*WINNER*

He had beaten the most difficult target to hit, many didn’t even breath as the owner just looked impressed as he walked over.

“So, what will it be!?” he asked calmly as Nekros glanced around and saw a mini grim reaper and pointed, the man nodded and gave it to him as he turned to see Valkyr, she mouth agape as Nekros walked passed and pushed her jaw back up

“Don’t choke on a fly,” Then he continued to walk as Valkyr slowly turned to follow, then her ear buzzed in annoyance

“What was that!? Come on, Valkyr! Anty up!” Ember roared at her as she sighed “I mean, you can’t show weakness, you need to act like you weren’t impressed, otherwise he’ll see right through you!”

“Sorry…” She mumbled as Mag came on the coms

“That was rather impressive though, I mean, they just fell like dominos,” She added with a whistle

“Remind me not to challenge him to a marksman game, ever.” Mesa chimed in as giggling could be heard

“Never mess with my, daddy!” Titania said with glee as Valkyr smiled and both continued onwards

Later…

“This seems fun,” Nekros said as he stopped and looked at the two people currently fighting in a ring as many watched, then Nekros side-stepped as the man flew passed him

“Well, that’s that! Who dares to enter the ring next to test their strength!?” The announcer spoke as many mumbled to themselves

“What a waste of carbon, maybe i-“ Nekros began as his ear rung

“She’s already gone, Nekros,” Frost said as he looked and saw her approaching he ring, so he shrugged and sat down “You really wanted to fight, didn’t you?”

“No fair.” Nekros sighed as he waited

“Hey buster! I want in!” Valkyr shouted as she jumped into the ring

“Are you sure about this miss? I mean, look at the guy!” The announcer asked as she looked at the near athlete in front of her

“Na, I’ll be fine,” She said as Valkyr walked up to her spot

“Ok everyone! The undefeated champion vs.-“

“Berserker,” Valkyr added happily

“The Berserker! Let the round commence!” He yelled as the two squared off

The man ran faster than Valkyr expected as she dodged the man’s swings as he kept her on the defensive. Valkyr was now already against the ropes as she felt an arm grab hers as she gasped from the punch to her stomach.

The man left no room to react as Valkyr was thrown across the arena as she rolled, the man turned only to see the girl back up and grinning, the crowd was now going wild as she taunted him.

“My turn to light things up,” She spoke as she ran head first

The man went to grab her but Valkyr slid underneath his legs as she backflipped onto his back and began to throw punch after punch into him. She then leaped off as he turned but Valkyr threw fists into his chest as he stumbled back, then Valkyr cartwheeled as her foot connected with the man’s jaw and sent him crashing.

He soon got up, his face contorted with rage as he spat a tooth out and Valkyr looked just fine.

“I don’t normally hit girls, by the way!” She mocked as this tipped the edge as he ran at her, full force

Valkyr waited as he got near inches from her as she pushed on his stomach and grabbed his shirt as she, to everyone’s surprise, lifted the man off his feet and brought his face clean into the floor with a massive thud.

The crowd went wild as they saw the body of the man lying still as the announcer ran over with glee and lifted her arm into the air as Valkyr smiled brightly.

“The Berserker has beaten the Champion!!!” He yelled as Valkyr glanced down to see Nekros clapping as she laughed

Nearby however a group of girls were smiling as they watched the show, and just behind the same wall a group of boys were handing their money over to Excalibur as he grinned from ear-to-ear.

“Told ya she’d win!” Both Ember and Excalibur said as everyone’s eyes widened as they jumped out and yelled “What are you doing here!?”

“Me! I’m here doing important Relic Hunter, stuff!” Excalibur made up as Ember rolled her eyes “What are you doing here!?”

“Umm guys?” Mesa tried to call but none of them listened as they continued “Guys!”

Once again they ignored her as Mesa groaned and turned to Valkyr and Nekros who were watching the scene, Valkyr’s face was pure red and Nekros just face palmed.

“Just go,” Mesa whispered as she pointed to the tree line before smiling “Nice performance, by the way!”

Somewhere else . . .

Nekros and Valkyr had found themselves hidden behind some trees after bailing on the gang arguing with each other, both of them looked at each other before Valkyr began to laugh and Nekros smiled.

“That was really awkward!” Valkyr giggled as Nekros nodded and sat down against a tree
“Let’s both agree that we suck at asking people out, agreed?” Nekros asked as Valkyr sat down beside him

“Yep. Totally. suck!” She added with a laugh

They both then sat in silence as they stared up at the night sky, then Valkyr sighed, which prompted Nekros to turn, she looked nervous, but he didn’t know why.

“Nekros?” She asked as titled his head

“I-I have something to ask you, if that alright?” She then began to blush

“Sure.” He said simply, still no emotion in his voice

“Do-do you… you... um...” She stuttered as she gulped “Like… me?”

“Depends, is it the same to you?” He asked as she looked at him, as he still looked as calm as ever as she slowly nodded

“No, I just got a centipede shoved into my skull for shits and giggles. . . I’m joking,” Nekros then bluntly added as Valkyr looked at him in surprise “I’m not that oblivious, besides I suck at showing feelings, as you know, so it was more on the lines on waiting on you,”

Valkyr then put her head between her legs as she sighed.

“All this time, you knew?” She asked but knew he nodded “This is so degrading!”

Nekros then silently sighed as he lifted her head up from her legs as he gave her a peck on the cheek, this made her freeze as her face grew even redder. Nekros then got up and held his hand out to Valkyr.

“Small steps, and besides, it’s cute when you tried to hide it,” He said with a smirk as she smiled and took his hand

Then they began to walk back to the fairgrounds as Valkyr hugged him closer.

“Thank you, so much,” She whispered

“Just doing what I can,” Nekros responded, on the other hand he was busy screaming in his head as many smaller versions of him ran around in a panic, one however shrugged

“Still a better love story than Twilight,”
