Chapter 13
Night of Truths

*Location, Earth, Relic Hunters’ HQ, +3 Months since crash*

Nothing but the sound of mumbling and footsteps could be heard from the other side of Excalibur’s door as his mind raced with scenarios. Valkyr just sat on his bed as she sighed.

“Are you done?” She asked in a bored state as he stopped and turned “Don’t you dare start,”

“Well what do you expect? I’ve never been on a date before!” He cursed as he began his walking back and forth

“You fought in a war agenst the Sentients and Orokin, dared to mock Rhino, but on little date has gotten you running for the hills? Wow sometimes I wonder if I’m the older one,” Valkyr complained as he stopped for a second then began again

“It’s not just that, I’m the one who has to do ‘IT’ and I quite frankly am regretting my decision!” Excalibur said in a panic as he was soon stopped as Valkyr held him by his shoulders as he looked at her

“Look, I know this won’t be easy, I get that, but if you want to make this easier on not only you but all of us, then you have to go through with this,” She said with a smile as Excalibur slowly released a breath

“Ok, you win, I got this, I just need to suck in my pride,” He said with determination and Valkyr’s smile turned into a grin “What?”

“Oh nothing, just realized why she likes you,” She winked as Excalibur’s then began to turn colour as Valkyr laughed

“I hate you,” He said bitterly as Valkyr hugged him

“Love you too!” She mocked as Excalibur knew this would only end two ways, so now he had to choose.

*Location, Canternlot, Evening*

Skyler watched as the light in the sky turned an array of reds and oranges as the day began to come to a close. A lot had occurred these last few months. She met a whole group of new friends and had began to dig herself in a massive investigation on the strange heroes/villains of their world. The Tenno.

*Ding*

She jumped slightly as she looked at her phone and saw it was a text from Excalibur as she smiled and looked at the message.

“So, you all ready?”

“Sure, I’m on my balcony, so what do you have planned?”

“Oh, don’t worry, I plan to put my expectations High!”

“All right then, how much longer you gunna be?”

“Be there in about 1 to 2 minutes, seeya!”

She was a little curious about that last message but paid no attention as she put her phone away and waited. But one thing was putting her on edge as she glanced around.

“What is that noi-AHHHHHHHHH!!!” she began before she was lifted into the air and taken ‘really’ high up and saw

“You! Put me down!” She yelled as she gripped his arms in fear

“Somehow, I doubt you can fly,” He said calmly as she gave him a glare before he sighed and pressed a button on his arm as his armour began to close itself and then her eyes were wider than thought possible as she stuttered the words
“Ex-Excalibur!!? What the, you-you’re the Tenno!!?” She gasped in shock as the pieces in her head began to click together as his smile grew “Bu-but how- “

“Not now, for now enjoy the view!” He suggested as she looked forward as she continued to stare in awe

She and Excalibur looked off towards the setting sun as the colours of the light shone brighter than ever, even more than just standing on the ground. Below the town came to life with lights dotting the streets as they added to the spectacle. It was unbelievable, no sight would be possible, even in an aircraft.

“It’s so beautiful…” She muttered

“I know,” Excalibur said as she looked up to see him staring back with a smile as she reddened slightly as he began to descend to a hilltop

They landed as Excalibur’s archwing disappeared into the clouds as he turned to face Skyler. But what he got back was a smile, that was good.

“So… better than a cliche date?” He asked as she stood there for a moment before laughing as he raised an eyebrow

“You, just grabbed me, took me thousands of feet into the air, without any safety and most of all you were smiling about it!” She laughed as he just rubbed the back of his neck before he was caught off guard by her hugging him

“It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen…” She whispered as he returned it, they stayed like that for a few minutes as they just listened to their surroundings before deciding to sit down, shoulder to shoulder

“Well, anyways, what I was going to say was, well, all of this,” Excalibur started “All the Tenno, Valkyr, Nekros, Ember, Ash, all of us,”

“To be honest, after Lumos and Nox, I felt like more of our friends were Tenno, but not you, well until now,” Skyler answered as she looked off towards the town

“Yea, but I promise you, we are not the enemy, the person tagging my comrads, my friends, he’s the enemy,” Excalibur said as Skyler noticed his fist tighten as she gave him a slight hug as he calmed down

“Who is ‘he’?” She asked as a long silence met her before he sighed

“He was, my old friend, no one, not even my sister knows that, he didn’t just become evil, he lost it, he used his Tenno powers to follow the Orokin and after what we did, he killed…” Excalibur stopped as he began to shake

“he-he-“He couldn’t say the words, not one word as he shook with fear and sadness “He killed him, I was too weak and I watched the only thing close to family besides Valkyr die in front of me because I was too weak to save him,”

At this point the memories wouldn’t stop flowing and the tears wouldn’t either as Skyler got the bigger picture now.

“I have fought for more than 1000 years and I am sick and tired of being treated like a threat, got it?!”

“Pain,”

"I will, for all of your fallen,"

“Despair,”

"What's wrong? afraid that I might be stronger than you?"

“Anger,”

“-I was too weak to save him,”

“Loss,”

It all made sense, he and all the others had been fighting for so long, all these emotions were building up inside, no one should be put through this, not even him.

Skyler looked over at the now broken friend, a person who dived into combat and smiled at any given moment and yet here he was, broken. Excalibur sat as he tried not to break as he felt all the memories clouding his mind, that he didn’t notice Skyler turning his head as he looked at her.

She was smiling as he felt himself becoming calmer but what happened next cased his mind to stop filling itself with pain and suffering, They closed the gap between them and kissed.

For a moment, they didn’t move until they needed air as both their faces were lit up brighter than the sun that had now fully set as they caught a glimpse of a green flash as they smiled.

They sat together for a sort moment, enjoying each other’s company as they just though about what had transpired before Skyler spoke up.

“Hey, Cal?” Skyler asked as Excalibur looked at her

“What’s up Sky?” He asked as she looked back towards the city before frowning

“I think it’s time you see the real reason why I’m part of that company,”

*Location, Canternlot Hospital, Night-time*

As they entered the large complex they walked to the front desk as the woman smiled.

“Oh, hello Miss Locks, are you here for a midnight visit?” She asked as Skyler smiled

“Yea, thought I bring another visitor if that’s alright?” She asked as Excalibur waved slightly as she nodded

“Sure, thing sweetie, just let a nurse know if you need anything,” Answered as Skyler thanked her and directed Excalibur through the hospital

Eventually they reached the second floor and came to a room labled *Room: 214, Cora Locks*. Skyler kept her hand on the door as she breathed silently before looking back at a frowning Excalibur

“I didn’t know your second name or that you had a relative, but I’m fine if you want to be alone,” He said simply as she shook her head and proceeded in as he followed

In the moonlight and a small lamp, a heart monitor with some other machines where all hooked up to a small girl with midnight blue hair as her chest slowly rose and fell and Skyler took a seat to her left and Excalibur joined her.

“This is my sister, Cora, a while ago, a month before you all showed up there was a fire that broke loose in a small complex that killed 5 people and injured 9,”

“Me and my sister were among the injured as the fires broke out at every turn as no escape could be found. Eventually we found a way out, we made out into the open-air as we coughed but my sister wasn’t so lucky,” Skyler began to tremble

“She collapsed as the paramedics rushed over and helped me take her hospital, when we got there I waited and waited and waited. Then when the doctor gave me the news I…. broke,”

“I rushed in as I saw what you’re seeing now, machines connected to her, her breathing shallow but there, due to the toxic smoke and the injury to the head she had gotten it soon put her into a coma, along with damaged lungs,”

“They said that if I couldn’t pay for the equipment use they would have to cut the only thing keeping her alive, can you believe that? I little girl, who is suffering and they wanted to kill her,” Skyler said as she bit back tears

“Eventually I just gave up, I couldn’t get that amount anywhere, I had nothing to help me, no one to turn to until, My commander, Blitz heard about my predicament and offered me something,”

“If I work for his company, he would not only give me the strength to save lives but the funds to keep my sister alive, so I accepted,” Skyler finished as she knew Excalibur could fill in the rest as he hugged her

“Don’t worry I have a plan,” He said sincerely as she looked up at his smile “But I need your trust on this one,”

“. . . I trust you, no matter what,” Skyler said as he quickly kissed her forehead before getting up and pressing a button on his arm as his entire right arm was armored as he raised it above Cora’s body

“Only me and 3 others have the upgrades necessary, and don’t worry if her heart rate increases, that’s just part of the process,” Excalibur reassured Skyler as his hand began to Amit pulses of green light as Cora’s monitor spiked slightly before calming down

He slowly stopped the flow as he unequipped his armour and waited.

. . .

Then she moved, then her eye began to stir as Skyler gasped as she looked over the railing. Then her eyes opened up, they were a brilliant purple as she yawned before slowly shifting upwards.

She looked confused as she looked around the room before her eyes rested on Skyler as tears flowed freely, Cora just looked at her before her mouth moved.

“Si…sis?” She asked as Skyler smiled brighter than ever as Cora’s eyes widened as she trembled “Is it really you?”

“Yea Cora, it’s me,” Skyler said happily as they both embraced as Cora began to cry and Excalibur smiled in success

“I miss you so much!” Skyler croaked as Cora just held on for dear life as they stayed like that for a few moments before the sound of collapse got their attention as Excalibur leaned back agenst the wall as he breathed heavily and began to sweat

“Excalibur! Are you all right!?” Skyler asked in worry as she ran over to pull him over to a chair as he breathed heavily “What’s wrong?”

“I was told not to use that again but I really don’t pay attention,” He said between breaths as he slowly calmed down “That’s the trade off when using my own void energy healing as a healing pulse,”

“Are you serious!? You could have died but you did it anyway?” Skyler snapped as he just laughed as she began to rant until Cora got their attention

“Um, Sis who’s that?” She asked as she let go of his collar before rubbing the back of her neck as Excalibur grinned and grabbed her side as kissed her on the cheek as Cora became dumbfounded

“Ok I must be dead, no way do you have a boyfriend?” She spouted as Skyler deadpanned and Excalibur muffled a laugh

“I forgot to mention my sister really doubts me having a boyfriend or being in any sort of relationship,” Skyler sighed in annoyance

“Why’s that?” Excalibur asked as Cora smiled

“Because she’s really bossy,” She said plainly as Skyler groaned in annoyance

“That is quite true, no wonder you have your own team,” Excalibur said as he felt a hand swipe across his face as Skyler crossed her arms

“Ow, god Damnit!” He cursed

“Oh yea, at least I don’t kidnap people into the air like a lunatic!” She retorted as Excalibur began to argue back as Cora just laughed making them both stop as they smiled

“Well, anyways are you feeling ok?” Skyler asked as Cora nodded

“Yea, a bit tired and weak but then again I was out for like, a long time,” She said as Skyler nodded

“Well still I’ll get a doctor, Excalibur can you wait here with her until I’m back?” Skyler asked as he nodded

“Talk about an eventful night?” Excalibur added as Skyler rolled her eyes

“You have no idea,” She giggled as she thought of something before leaving "Hey Excalibur?"

He looked over at her as he waited for an answer.

"Thanks, not just for tonight, but, everything," Skyler answered as he gave her thumbs up

"Just in my nature!" He stated in glee as she then left the room as all was silent

“So, what other embarrassing things do you know?” Excalibur asked with a evil grin as Cora copied his

“Oh, I do believe you will be a perfect fit for her, now let’s the endless suffering begin,” She said rubbing her hand menacingly, this was going to be a long night
