When Trixie tried an advanced teleportation spell, she was expecting to pop up in the next town. Instead, she found herself in a creepy research station on Mars...
3612652 The grabber works well on imps and lost souls, but that's about it. Other enemies don't give you convenient balls of plasma to send back in their faces. I don't remember using it a lot in RoE... Double shotgun all the way
According to wiktionary, sentient means "conscious or self-aware". For sapient, it says "(now literary or ironic) Possessing wisdom and discernment; wise, learned." Hmmm... Wikipedia agrees with you, though... I could just say "conscious" or "self-aware", too. Nah. "Sapient" sounds silly, I like it.
Nice juxtaposing the two parts to this chapter. The beginning is fairly fun, with Trixie and the humans figuring things out between each other in amusing ways. As soon as food we mentioned, I knew we'd be getting a few comments about meat.
I also like the idea that Trixie doesn't care where she is, just so long as she is adored and recognized. Because that's what her cutie mark is telling her.
Speaking of, I'm surprised they didn't talk about her butt symbol. I guess the magic blew their minds (before the demons did).
But then reality hits, and reminds me that this is a crossover with Doom. It's sad to see some of these characters die. I actually liked the scientists, but knew better to get attached to them.
Well, the nightmare has started. Let's see how Trixie manages to get through it all.
3612856 In RoE, on smaller enemies like Forgotten Ones (or Lost Souls), Cherubs, Trites and Ticks, it's an instant kill. It also catches the projectiles thrown by Imps, Vulgars, Mancubi and Hell Knights, ready for a catch-and-return scenario. Even Revenant rockets aren't immune: granted, you can't throw them back at Mr. Bone-Face, but releasing the hold deflects it off in a random direction.
And if you don't know that scientists are silly buggers, shame on you
3612875 I made things look up just so that I could take it all from Trixie. I'm eeeeeevil!
The meat subject is just so obvious every time one writes human/pony stories... That's one of the things I really trimmed down from my draft, actually, I had a long discussion about horse meat (it's delicious!), vegetarianism and stuff like that. It involved spam, somehow... I got rid of most of it because that's not what this story is about, after all. It's just here to set the scene instead of just going "suddenly, demons everywhere". It's the same reason I didn't really talk about the details of magic, cutie marks, alicorns moving astral bodies, the different species of ponies, dragons, griffons and all the beasties of Equestria, rock farming (how does it work? Trixie should know!), etc. There's tons of material to work with, but not in this story
Anyways, it's nice to see I managed to make you care about the characters I created just so that I could kill them... Man, being a writer is weird sometimes
3612959 I know it works, but it's kinda hard to pull off. Sometimes the demons don't throw fireballs at you and when an imp decides to pounce, the grabber is useless. Also, it's not a great idea to keep it equipped at all times, in case you run into maggots or a pinky or zombie commandos... Not to mention that if you fail to catch a fireball with the grabber, you catch it with your face...
In the end, I just prefer to slaughter demons with the artifact and my bare fists
So, Trixie has a natural Grabber. That should even the odds quite a bit.
Also, by Trixie being sentient, you mean sapient. A sentient being feels; a sapient one thinks. That is not an error I see a biologist ever making.

Hell begins.

Great chapter!
