Performance improvements

Over the last few days I've been working on improving the performance of the BBCode parser. I've managed to implement a few major optimizations, reducing the run time in common cases to around 1/4th to 1/20th compared to the older version. This has reduced total server-side render times on some of the more complicated test pages I've been using to around 50ms–70ms, which should be a noticeable improvement.

Site Post » Math BBCode tag · 12:58am Dec 17th, 2017

I've added [math] and [mathblock] BBCode tags, which can be used to display formatted math. We've had a few requests for this, particularly for group forum threads and blog posts. Most math-related TeX syntax is supported. (We are currently using MathJax to handle the layout.)

The documentation from the BBCode guide is repeated below for your convenience.

THIS IS A TEST · 2:40pm April 1st

I just figured out BBcode

print('And how it functions. So for the rest of this blog, Ill talk like this.')

print('This feels like Ive unlocked a shit ton of power, honestly.')

print('I can also do this.')

age = 13

if age == '13':
  print('Griff is', age)

print('Now, this is kind of a test run, I have no idea if its going to show up like this or not. But this is a test.')

Since even Bad Horse says I’ve out-nerded him, I might as well explain how I did it in great, excruciating detail. Because I’ve finally published the results as fit for human/pony consumption.

PSA: Fimfiction has a [code] tag. · 2:43am Jun 26th, 2015

I don't think anyone here has ever mentioned this tag, and I didn't know Fimfiction supported it until I saw someone use it.

This tag is spelled [code]. You close it with [/code]. Things in a code tag will come out in a monospaced font, where all letters are just as wide, and a space is the same width as a letter.

This lets you perform precise alignment.

Footnote Testing (a.k.a. better than lorem ipsum) · 1:33am Jul 30th, 2020

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities, and vital system components1 comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

  1. Why is an entire LaTeX distribution not included here?

Fun with BBCodes · 3:08am Nov 4th, 2019

So I've been checking out FimFic's BBCode Guide and decided to have some fun with them.
Important Notes: Some of them don't work the same way in the stories than they do in blog or forum posts. Namely the quote codes.
