Friendship is Card Games: 28 Pranks Later · 11:15am Aug 14th, 2016
Well. That happened.
Well. That happened.
As many have noted, as of this episode, Twilight Sparkle has spent more episodes of the show as an alicorn than as a unicorn. Well, more accurately, there have been more episodes of the show where she’s been an alicorn than a unicorn. She hasn’t appeared in some of them, including this one.
This week, we return to Trailblazer and company, and a day of seaside fun in the town of Amblerta before going a-questing to Yggdrasil.
We return to the Berrow catalogue this week, and it’s AJ’s turn in the saddle.
… I’m going to think about the implications of that idiom with ponies later. For now, let’s see what this book has in store.
Bad news is my Sealed pool could’ve been better yesterday. (Five out of seven rares cast one mana. Two of which were Bomat Courier.) Good news is I was able to pull the episode off of YouTube before it got ContentID’d, which means I can do a quasi-live reaction.
The first two issues of the G5 IDW comics are out, and I definitely have some thoughts on them, but I’m holding off on them until more information comes to light. For now, let’s close out d20 Pony for the time being.
Alright, time to close out Make Your Mark. Surely the season finale will have some dramatic confrontation.
Surely.
Imagine the least likely MLP crossover imaginable. One that would not even occur in fan fiction. One where the disconnect between the target audiences couldn’t be widened much more before you’d have to go either postmortem or prenatal.
That’s right, folks. We Golden Girls now. Just don’t ask me which one is Betty White.
It’s back to the Moon this week, with shenanigans aplenty. (A shame we're just past the bit with the egg on Easter Sunday, but so it goes.)
If we’re going in strict chronological order of release, I should’ve gone for Camp Bighoof before Endless Summer, but it is what it is. Let’s see what I missed out on last time, while also chipping away at the main line backlog.
Despite the leaks, we here at Wizards of the Foam are dedicated to the originally intended release schedule. As such, we will not be using any information from the Ixalan rare sheet that was—
Wait, what?
Pony leaks from Australia? Seriously?
Well, the same policy stands. I’ll get to those when they air in the States, just like today's subject, which aired early in Poland. Let’s look at the latest dispatch from the technicolor ape world.
Oh. Right. Sunny Starscout. The mare who reunited the tribes and ascended to holographic alicornhood (which is like normal alicornhood, but only shows up in Collector Boosters.) She should probably get a focus episode at some point this season.
Of course she is, but how’s her throat?
And so we come to the end of Chapter 4. Let’s see how they close it out… and how badly they needed a beta reader.
We interrupt the current G5 rundown for something relatively quick in light of Everfree Northwest. In this case, a return to Magpiepony’s land of what-ifs (and irresponsibly time-traveling royal sisters) for the last two princesses who could have been.
So. Funny story about this week. The original plan was for the most recent G5 IDW issue and the first issue of Classics Reimagined: The Unicorn of Odd… but it turns out the former is the first half of a two-parter. I don’t like the idea of going over two incomplete stories, and without either second part currently available, that means we turn to the next part of the G4 backlog… which is a Berrow chapter book.
I find myself in an interesting situation that I can only describe as a multilevel backlog. The first one, the new Netflix content, will last me until the end of November. The one after that, all the Tell Your Tale shorts and comics that will accrue in that time, will see me through mid-January. And all the stuff I already had planned? December of next year.
Let’s begin.
As I promised on Thursday, this week we’re beginning a deep dive into the works of fan animator Minty Root, starting with their most recent creation and bouncing around from there.
And so my quest begins anew. Let's get to it... after a few thoughts on the Season 5 finale, since I saw the tail end of it prior to the premiere.
At this point, we’re getting into genuine first reactions on my part. Between other demands on my time and insufficient engagement, I just haven’t been binging G5. Honestly, I have a hard time just sitting and watching my entertainment anymore. Plus, there’s something to be said for a weekly release schedule giving the fandom time to digest each episode.
In any case, let’s take a look.
