Worldbuilding Workout #3 + New Ko-fi Banner + Upcoming Oneshot · 4:39pm Sep 9th, 2022
In my latest issue we talk about tricksters, and what a demonic dorito, charismatic chimera, and a smol child from the stars have in common. Bear in mind that if you haven't watched The Owl House yet, beware of spoilers!
If you enjoy my writing, please consider subscribing! You can read through email or website, and issues are always free. I'll be creating blog posts like this for every WW issue that has anything to do with MLP, to act as a closer-to-home comment section. That seemed to work well last time.
Next, my latest commission is something new from CitreneSkys, and is another cartoon caricature of Yours Truly. It's a versatile piece I'll be utilizing for various things in the future, but right now, it's a cute ad banner for my Ko-fi. You'll also find it in my profile sidebar, along with an ad and link for the latest issue of WW.
Lastly, a micro-fic is in the works. It's a fic dedicated to Palpus, who I talked about in a past blog. I'm solo-writing it right now, with minor input from LevelDasher, but don't worry, plans are in place to abduct him for creative writing purposes soon enough. He can't hide away doing house things forever.
As usual, that will have a unique cover art as well. LD and I split this one.
Thanks ya'll!
Does a certain Radio Demon fit in that category?
Also Demonic Dorito is legit the best nickname for Bill Cipher I’ve ever seen.
*Sees The Owl House and immediately bolts to read the Issue* OWL HOUSE!!!!!!!
Anyway, the picture looks adorable and I cannot wait to see the fic!
(Near-)omnipotent characters are my cup of butter, your honour.
I’ll leave this here that I made last month in August, whether it’s completely relevant or not (from including only 2 of the discussed characters).

Precisely what I was thinking! Most likely seeing as we’ve spoken about it in the past.

Oh indeed we have.

Cool as Alastor is we have next to nothing to scale his power with compared to the others save for that blimp scene, so I decided to focus on these three instead. Though on our alignment chart I think he'd absolutely be close or on par with Bill.
That's an awesome chart!

I can see why you went with that decision. Such a shame we still only have the pilot with no release date yet.
As you pointed out, Alastor is definitely Bill; I’ve seen people draw both of them and compare Radio Demon with Dorito Demon (and to a lesser extent, Discord, but mostly Bill.)

Most certainly.
I feel as though there should be a line between the composed near-omnipotents (Sebastian being at the very end, and Alastor closely following), and the—er—“less composed” (Discord being in the end, and Bill somewhere between him and Al), with them and any other “chaotic”, (near-)omnipotent antagonist we come across.

After reading the blog: I like Trickster characters tooo! But you did kinda miss one thing with the Collector, I'll put it in spoilers here just in case someone who hasn't seen TOH reads the comments, but The Collector actually does give one hint of maliciousness behind that childlike glee: in the scene where they describe "wanting to play with you [King], but your dad hid you away," the Collector uses their shadow magic stuff to show a loop of themself kicking King's egg around like a ball. I suppose this could be viewed as childlike innocence on their part, but it's still very dark

Must have missed that! I still don't think that's evidence of decisive malice, though. The Collector comes off as a child who's never had rules or morals taught to him, so in his unobstructed pursuit of self indulgence it makes sense that he'd do things that endanger others or are themselves cruel acts.
We have to ask ourselves was he kicking King's egg because he found the pain it could inflict fun, or was he simply using something as a ball and didn't think about or mind the consequences? Based on what we've seen from him so far, I'd argue it's the latter. Again, the way he's written does not come off as malicious, just spoiled, entitled.
Entitled kids can be cruel, too, but they're not actively looking to cause pain for pain's sake. The Collector is a built different from Bill or Alastor.

You make a good point. Personally, I think in S3 the writers are either going to have someone (likely Mama Eda) get close enough to the Collector to neutralize their powers somehow, then go about lecturing them and agreeing to raise them, or re-banish the Collector, but at the sacrifice of another character (I hope it's the former). So it definitely could be chalked up to a lack of authority, I just thought that was a particularly dark moment in the time the Collector is onscreen
