A movie I watched recently · 1:00am Aug 26th, 2022
Recently I watched a movie on HBO Max called Willy's Wonderland. It was silent Nicolas Cage fighting evil Chuck E Cheese animatronics. It was... certainly something.
I friggin' loved every moment, especially the Cage bits. I mean, talk about a movie that knows what it is and where everyone is having a complete blast. I don't think anyone in Hollywood has had a more wacky career than Nicholas Cage. He's been in fantastic movies like Raising Arizona, has an Oscar for best actor under his belt for Leaving Las Vegas... and he's been in some complete dreck.
Now here he is fighting an evil gorilla robot with a bathroom plunger. It's glorious. I have no doubts I'll watch it again.
The best part, though? No morals. No message. No politics. It is what it is. It's the most fun I've had watching a movie in quite some time.
Compare it to the latest Purge movie, which has its smug, preachy politics dripping from every piece of dialogue. The Purge films have always been political, which is fine, but they've never been good at balancing that with its halfway interesting premise. I've seen every Purge film except for, oddly, the first one. The political message has always been there, just more in some films than others, with the latest one being particularly bad about it.
Why can't movies just be fun anymore? O have no problem with a film that has something to say, of course, but that seems like 90% of movies, which goes up to 99% if it's a big blockbuster.
Eugh. I started this post because I want to tell you all to watch Willy's Wonderland and to maybe get some suggestions from you guys about similar films.
Willie's wonderland and yes it is awesome
Yeah, that trailer left quite the impact when I first saw it. Glad to know it's exactly as ridiculous as it looks.

Wonderland, yeah.
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Should be right up your ally.
I recommend Rubber. I think the premise speaks for itself. Evil killer sentient tire.

Saw that one. Did really enjoy it.
Saw WW, it was alright.
Colossal
NOBODY
Bullet Train
Kick-Ass
Keanu
Art of Self-Defense
X
Just to name a few for "fun" factor. You're welcome. 🤓
it's fun when we can have fun~
no preaching, no quire, no holier than thou, just fun
The best part was watching Cage act without dialog. All facial expressions and body language, And he did it without even a trace of over-acting.
That was fun. And enjoying him having the cahones to appear in a complete FNAF ripoff and have fun doing it was the icing on the cake.
<edit> And yeah no lie, was nice to just have a romp without being preached at.
I really want to watch The Unbelievable Weight of Massive Talent where he plays himself.
Honestly, The Purge would be a great setting for comedy. Imagine The Hangover but it was Purge day. Imagine Weekend at Bernie's but it's a few days before the Purge. And those are just the examples Cracked came up with when they pointed it all out; I'm sure there are other wacky misadventures you could go with when crime is legal for a day.

Definitely. Like I said, politics isn't wrong in movies, but it needs to be woven in right.
Willy’s Wonderland (originally titled Wally’s Wonderland before someone in the production realized they could change it to make an easy dick joke pun lol) is indeed a fun movie. Saw it in theaters for the limited time it was there.
I would recommend, if you want to watch another fun little strange horror flick, look up Psycho Goreman.
Here’s the trailer for it and it is every bit as hilarious as Willy’s in my opinion!
Guns akimbo, with daniel radcliffe or The Babysitter. Guns bolted to hands or satanic cult babysitters, take your pick
In terms of stupid fun I would recommend Hardcore Henry, but not if you get motion sickness easily as the movie is almost entirely done in a first-person perspective.
Plus it has Sharlto Copley showing off his range as an actor, which considering he's been everthing from a sniveling middle manager to a psychotic merc is quite the range.
Willie's Wonderland is so weird yet so awesome. It's a shame movie companies can't just make movies anymore without shoving political bullshit down your throat. I really don't watch movies anymore because they started getting political around halfway through Obama's first term. The last really good "new" movie I saw was probably back in 2014 or something, I can't remember anything standing out that came out after that.
