This new chapter for the Gen 5 comic revealed so much about what caused magic to be lost to Equestria. And it does tie into Make Your Mark in a sense. You can deny this chapter is legit and canon, because frankly so far there is no real separate canon to this series.

Since this is coming from the comics, I'm gonna take this information with a grain of salt. Also, if this alicorn was around during the Mane 6's time, why was she never mentioned? You think Celestia and Luna would have warned someone about her.
Honestly, the entirety of the overall flashback sequence still doesn’t answer how MLP G5 is a continuation of MLP G4. Hardly anything about it answers why there are so many visual inconsistencies, and every attempt it made at explaining the overall connection between the two series only caused it to become all-the-more muddled and confusing.
I had a feeling all along that the shadowy alicorn from Make Your Mark special may actually be mentioned in the G5 IDW comics long ago. But I wonder if she lives somewhere around Canterlot, Crystal Empire, or Ponyville given that her palace wall and doorways almost resemble Twilight’s old castle in Ponyville.
I feel pretty sad that Spike didn't make an appearance in the comic he was just as important he helped bring friendship to the changelings and Dragons

Maybe the Alicorn was a) in hiding until the time to make her debut came, b) she came into existence only recently, c) Celestia and Luna died before they could tell anybody, or d) all of the above.
Yeah I kind of did anticipate "Old Man Discord" in some way. Not quite closure, as long still curious what the hay happened to everyone else.

Still, I wondered what happened to Twilight and how she could've continued to let this happen. They could've tracked the enemy down and stopped her.
Plus I can't believe the ponies suddenly shunned the Mane 6 after everything they did.
That's all what I hate about Pony kind, always judging one another without thinking. You'd think they'd learned their lesson from their parents and predecessors.

I may as well go ahead and mention that, just like the MLP: ANG movie, it basically felt like the writers and artists were purposely turning the entirety of the G5 comics into a savage ridicule of G4.
How they were even trying to connect both series through these comics doesn’t even make sense! And not only was Discord badly portrayed and characterized, but the overall story treated the Main Six mean-spiritedly and caused them to seem stupid.
