Lost on a desert island.
The idea brings up images of coconuts, palm fronds, and for some of us older folks; Gilligan's Island. In story and myth being stranded on a tropical desert island is usually written of as idyllic isolation, but the harsh reality is that it is anything but.
So, when Quantum Castaways by DustTraveller was recommended to me, my curiosity was piqued. At its heart the story is a classic "Fish out of Water" tale, involving a pre-alicorn Twilight Sparkle who wakes up one morning on the beach of a strange island with absolutely no idea how she got there. After some wandering about and nearly being killed by a trap meant for wild game, Twilight is discovered by the island's other sentient resident, a human pilot named Marshall.
The two become companions by necessity, and later friends forged in the adversity of trying to survive on an island that should not and by all rights, cannot, exist.
The dialogue is crisp, the characters relatable and the story is engaging. Plus the omake's the author begins to add in later chapters are wonderful.
Read Quantum Castaways by DustTraveller, a good, if unfinished, story, and it was a great recommendation.
On a complete side note. Thruster, Mark IV is currently in production. If anyone has some TNG x MLP ships, send them my way. If you know the Thruster series, you know why.
Until next time, be excellent to each other.
riker x rarity. for the lulz
Hmmm Twilight X 7 of 9 or Data or Spock, depending.
Very glad you liked Quantum Castaways. It is one of the stories on this site that I have read several times.
For a bit of a palate cleanser, I would suggest/recommend something very different.
Whom the Princesses Would Destroy... by GhostOfHeraclitus. It is a light-hearted comedy about the impossible task of maintaining a bureaucracy that tries to keep up with immortal rulers and those they attract. It is the story of those charged with maintaining the engine of government while trying not to be crushed in the metaphorical gears. This involves eldritch horrors. And tea.
