Any Pokemon Writers Out There? · 6:48pm Apr 13th, 2022
Off-beat question here, but: I'm starting to plan for a pokemon TTRPG campaign, and I have some ideas I'd love to brainstorm (with someone that's not in my party!). Anyone write pokemon fanfiction, and/or know someone who does?
I know Starscribe writes some Pokéfic.
Checking the "Pokémon" tag on this site would probably help; anyone significantly inactive in either fandom probably wouldn't have come back to set said tag once series tags became a thing.

using a homebrew system or something else? :O I just got a big archive of RPG books recently, and looking through, there were a couple Pokemon games
Thanks for the tips, everyone!

Ooh, interesting! What have you found?
TBH, I haven't seriously played a Pokemon game since Gold, so I'm a little less interested in the crunchy, emulate-the-video-games style of play. I'm actually thinking of hacking Kids on Bikes (80s-90s supernatural adventure) to work for pokemon; that is, instead of exploring your hometown with E.T. in tow, you'll be exploring Kanto(?) with Pikachu by your side.
When making a campaign I made the three legendaries theme relate to causing abnormal mental effects on the humans that live there. Humans long term exposed to the legendary in the mountain top (that’s just Lavos~) would get extremely aggressive. Humans inside the actually alive forest that is a legendary would be extremely sociable, friendly, and lose all sense of self preservation. And humans near the large lake in this desert like region are under the effects of the Cthulhu legendary, which made them all extremely introverted, secretive, and paranoid.
You have human players in a Pokémon setting~! Try to have things happen that effect their human players more often, is what I went for. Made it feel more personal and high risk.

Pokemon the Roleplaying Game, Pokemon Tabletop Adventures, and Pokemon Tabletop United, which looks the most promising.
Oh, and Pokethulhu. Let's not forget that. XD

Oh, okay--I I thought you got some physical books, which piqued my interest.
FWIW, I played PTU and remember it being stupidly crunchy for crunch's sake. I'm currently looking into Pokeymanz (which is based on Savage Worlds) and Pokerole, which I've barely cracked open. The big advantage of both, though, is that the players create their Pokemon as a sort of personalized NPC, rather than referring to a big ol' database of predetermined stats. That lowers the overhead for me pretty dramatically, which makes me happy.

That does sound a little more lightweight, yeah. :)
Oddly, the only one of those I've ever seen in physical is Pokethulhu. <.< Never did actually play it though.
