Hello hello hello! I've been on a bit of a breather from longform stories after finishing "Shaking Off Bad Memories" a few weeks ago (which I still need to get around to adding to AO3... oops), since that was a bit of a taxing process and I don't have a firm idea for what I want my next "big" EqG story idea to be beyond the basic premise (it involves my concept of who human Sunset is). I'll probably have to get back to doing some chapters for "Pinkie Pie Takes Disneyland" before then. But anyway, I still wanted to do a little bit of writing, and I happened to notice a certain contest is still going...
Yes, I wrote an entry for the "Who Crossed Over My Little Pony" contest, which is all about bringing old-timey cartoon characters into Equestria. And since my favorite classic cartoons growing up were pretty much always Tom & Jerry (even if I tend to watch Looney Tunes stuff more these days), I decided to bring everyone's favorite beleaguered feline into the land of pastel ponies, where, unfortunately for him, Angel Bunny is no more fond of Tom than Jerry is. Here's a sample of some of the cartoon shenanigans they get up to:
Tom quickly got to his feet and spotted Angel, seemingly out cold, on the rug in the middle of the room. A lightbulb appeared above his head. Quickly, he dashed over to the rug and rolled it up with Angel inside. Racing to the door, he opened it and chucked the rug out, watching it tumble away down the pathway. Satisfied, he gave himself a pat on the back and closed the door, then turned around.
Only to find Angel right there, looking him dead in the eyes, a smug smile on his face.
This a one-shot, E-rated (all the violence is classic Tom & Jerry-style cartoon violence) story that you can easily check out in a single sitting. Who will prevail? Find out now!
This was a fun one to write. I got to "research" by watching a bunch of old T&J cartoons I had a lot of fond nostalgia for ("Tee for Two" might be my favorite) and it was a nice chance to experiment with my writing. Most of my stories are extremely dialogue-driven, so it was a good chance to practice writing a scene more focused around the action than what people are saying, since both Tom and Angel are obviously silent. (I thought about including a "don't you believe it" reference, but I couldn't find a natural place for it.) And it was my first time writing a fic set fully in Equestria, which meant it set a lot of other "firsts" for me too (first story to not feature Sunset Shimmer, first story without any notable drama elements, etc.). Oh, and I also made the "cover art" for it, which is utterly atrocious, feel free to mock it severely.
Will it win the contest? Doubtful. I can't imagine anything topping that excellent Popeye story someone wrote. But hey, you'll never know unless you try.
I'm also considering doing an entry for the "Sunset Shimmer x EQG Villain" contest; my idea is essentially a short, 2-chapter Sunset x Trixie story set around senior fall formal, probably in the same continuity as "Late-Night Conversations"/"Bad Memories"/"Winter Holidate" but many months before any of them (since I don't see that being a lasting relationship, but it'd be fun to see them try). But we'll see how solid I can make my idea before the deadline (I'll outline it later this week). Anyway, stay tuned, and enjoy some fun with Tom & Angel!
