It's been four years. More than four years. A lot of thought and a lot of work. So while it risks me coming off very petty, I need to indulge myself a little.
Let me reiterate something most of you already know. I've been a Sonic fan for ages, if you couldn't already tell, lol. And of course, you probably already know the terrible reputation of anything Sonic related in the MLP fandom. I've touched on this awhile back. To what extent it's justified based on a lot of past releases from SEGA, or bad fan work isn't the point here. I'd just like you to understand where I'm coming from. But knowing those things, and without belaboring it too much, I'd like to share just a small piece of the microcosm of opinions I've seen pop up from many a people over the years, just as an example.
That's just a small taste of the opinions that circulate on this particular crossover genre. And that's only counting what I've personally seen.
So. With all that in mind. And with just a little extra personal shade for the last of that list on my part. I just have one word to say:
Observe.
Sigh... I wish you could have felt my joy. 😭 Have I ever told you how much I love seeing nay-sayers proven wrong?
Now, this isn't meant to stir the pot over anyone specifically. Lol I'm not THAT childish, and we've all got more important things to do. Just to show how much finally getting this story featured means to me. And looking back, I'm slightly glad for all those kinds of comments and opinions. I can even think of one I got when I first published this, from a particularly notorious troll. They're part of what gave me the drive to make this story what it is up till now. And for the readers, the ride ain't even close to being over.
And just as an aside, seeing this at the same time I've seen IDW continue to work wonders with the franchise in the comics, let alone the great movie reception, has been pretty vindicating. 'Cause despite a LOT of missteps and misdirection - painfully so at times for us Sonic fans 😭 - we know deep down the series is good. It can be good, just like anything else can. I believe that the biggest weakness Sonic/MLP crossover fic suffers from, is assumption mixed with expectations because of past experiences. Because let's be honest, every fandom can be cringe and toxic, it's a feature at this point.
Both MLP and Sonic suffers from this, but Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase are a very special case because of their longer history compare to MLP because the fanbase didn't really grow until Friendship is Magic came. And thus, Sonic is filled with a lot more cringe and toxicity in general.
I've haven't actuelly read your fic yet, but after this post? It's about time.
I can't remember when I first got interested in the story. I want to say it was from the first chapter, but it's been long enough at this point that I don't recall. The point I'm trying to make is that I've always liked it.
I know cringe. I've written cringe. A sentient robot brainwashing herself into thinking she's Groucho Marx is cringe. An eons-old scientist getting angered by pop-up ads on her laptop is cringe. A Pokemon evolving into a bounty hunter after coming in contact with every evolution stone simultaneously is cringe.
Your story is not. It's that plain and simple.
You did what I couldn't I finished one chapter and gave up you do it for me and all of us sonic fans and show them the true power of CHAOS CONTROL!
You have so many points here that It goes into the funny territory seriously It can be good but just because they think Sonic and MLP don't or more like can't mix It can get pretty ridiculous
