Well. We're here. I'm going to be honest and say that I have no idea what to say
Guess we can start off first off on the cancellation of Reborn. To those who'd ask why I canceled it, no it's not because of simply burning out from writing(mostly). I've said or alluded to this a few times either here or elsewhere around fimfiction, but this story was already falling apart.
You may have noticed a Slice-of-Life theme that was coming together in the later chapters, which I never wanted this story to be. I played on it for a while, but nothing really came of them. Progression towards the story's goal was slowed to a crawl.
When I created this story I never really had a plan. And that shows. The library trip? Not planned. Foreshadowing some kind of drug/illegal operations in Manehatten? Not planned. The griffin break out on the ship? Not planned. The violin scene? Not planned.
In all, all of these things were so small things. But left an example and promise of exploration into the ideas in future chapters that never materialized, and they only got in the way of my original plan.
Heck, I wanted a unique story that didn't involve Celestia or going to Canterlot. But I thought that realistically such a situation would immediately be taken to the top, and therefore Canterlot.
I originally started wanting a simple story. Two twins, appeared in Equestria alone and slowly falling into the mental instability that comes with such a traumatic event. But, slowly the inhabitants became their new families.
This marked the first third of the original plan. Then came the growth. The twins, as alicorns had incredible potential, something to nurture and guide. So they grew, until one day, they became of age. But, something was off. While they were free and could do what they wanted, they could not leave what was their family.
And comes in the third and final arc of the planned story. Repayment. I said that the Zebra lands were plagued with warlords and monsters. Mark and Star would be the saviors of land that not even Equestria could reach. And once their grand quest was finished, then they'd be free.
Their former lives have long left them, and despite the opportunity, they refused to go home. They have a new family, built through bonds and fire. They would lead the rebuilding of the great Zebrian empires bringing everlasting peace to those who took in the lost and helpless and dared to call them brother, sister... family.
The theme is clear, family is an unbreakable thing. In My Little Pony, while Friendship is Magic, family too is just as important.
Heh, you can see how derailed the story got from the original barebones plans. Planning or lack thereof brought the story down. And so, I refuse to forever leave it incomplete or on hiatus. I'm sorry I couldn't bring this story to an end, but all I can do is close out this chapter and begin anew.
This story has taught me so many valuable lessons in the art of writing, and I don't plan to stop now. It may be months before I start posting another story, but this time I have a plan.
But for now, this story will close here. I had intended for one more chapter before canceling, but I made it to the end of the month before that happened. If you so wish, send me a message and I shall leave the incomplete, unedited, chapter 29 for you. And if you wish to see how bad my planning was, I can provide my notes.
For now, this is goodbye. Thank you all, for those who have come to read my story, for sticking through from rough beginnings to now. Don't be sad, for while this story is over, it will live in your hearts.
You could do a rewrite.
Well... the most important part is that you learned something, whether you do a rewrite or move on to the next project. Just don't let the setback of ending your story stop you from trying again.
