New Story (Honest) · 12:43am Jan 11th, 2022
I've posted my entry for the G5 bingo competition. It was challenging to write something within the word limit that hit all of the weird prompts without going all over the place.
I really like what I came up with, but so far views and ratings have not been good. As always, it's difficult to tell whether the ratio is legit while a story is still recent and getting views from casual readers. My main fear is that I won't be able to automatically force PresentPerfect and PaulAsaran to read it (the top five entries get reviews from them, and I love making them both read my works).
Also, the story contains several fan-fixes for issues in G5 canon as well as a pointed prediction I made a long time ago that I hope comes to pass if this becomes another cartoon series.
Whether or not it's successful, I do hope you enjoy it! Now I can turn my attention to some stories I'd been working on but had suspended for contest-related shenanigans.
I gave it a read and left it a review and upvote. It’s not a bad story, not badly written or bad premise. If I had to make a wild guess why it’s collected the downs, it’s because the use of the ‘Death’ tag. People see that tag and it’s a kneejerk one.
Perhaps you might do better in removing the death tag? No pony ‘dies’ on screen and there’s nothing gruesome in talking about family members who have passed on in a vague measure of time under vague circumstances. Arguably in the movie, Sunny had as much implication / talking about her father's death with the sad looks to the portraits and quiet talk about him being 'gone'.
Death tag is for long drawn out longfics about a cancer drama or Rainbow Factories / Cupcakes or something like a Dystopian Fallout Equestria. At least that’s my two cents! But don't get too discouraged. Rating and votes are not always a measure of a fics quality. My own best written work is my lowest rated one. but keep heart that you still wrote a good story, despite the setbacks and one you are happy and proud of.

I agree that it's a potential issue. That said, people will definitely complain (and rightly so) if there's no trigger warning for the last chapter, even though it's canon. I agree reaction to the tag may be part of it, but I don't think it's a good idea to remove it. (The main purpose of the tags is to warn about content and this goes way beyond the limit of what I'd tag for Death.)
re the wordplay in the title:
Heh. :)
"I really like what I came up with, but so far views and ratings have not been good."
Sorry about that -- though, from what I recall, the rating ratio is at least better now than it was when I read the story.
"My main fear is that I won't be able to automatically force PresentPerfect and PaulAsaran to read it (the top five entries get reviews from them, and I love making them both read my works)."
Good luck!
"Whether or not it's successful, I do hope you enjoy it! "
I did. :)
"Now I can turn my attention to some stories I'd been working on but had suspended for contest-related shenanigans."
Good luck with those too, then!
