"Why should context matter?" Debunked by Mykan · 2:26pm Dec 22nd, 2021
Why am I not surprised that Mykan made a blog post responding to my post about the poll I made? Click here for my blog post. Click here for the poll. Although, the amusing thing is that debunking him is completely unnecessary because he does the work for me. He debunks himself with his contradictions. So instead of me debunking him, I'll use his own arguments to debunk himself (I may make my own points if necessary).
So... I guess this is "Why should context matter?" Debunked. And Mykan did the work himself for me.
If you bully or harm fictional characters for no other reason than that you hate them, does that make you a bully in real life?
SWEET MOTHER OF CELESTIA!!! Tone it down a bit! I can't tell if Mykan intentionally made the text like that, or if he was just too lazy to apply the proper edits after copy/pasting the poll title. Well, at least I know that means he's not editing the title.
*Punches Twilight across the face*
See? I punched Twilight... did anybody REALLY get punched? Did they? I don't see how the context matters here.
No. Because by your own admission, you never punched Twilight in the first place.
Also, if the context doesn't matter, that there was absolutely no reason for Mykan to have done this demonstration in the first place. But I know that the context was to make a point about how Twilight is a fictional character. So ironically, the context actually does matter.
As for the topic of context, Mykan's blog is entirely in the context of my previous blog and the poll I made. Which means that without context, his entire blog post means absolutely nothing. But I know that almost every blog post he makes lately is in response to someone else.
So I made Beast Boy pull off Flurry heart's head. You may call it sick, or psychotic, but it's still not real. No REAL baby got beheaded, so why act like the context matters when it can't? In the end, you just don't like what is written or the reasons WHY, which STILL does not make it REAL bullying.
This is irrelevant to my previous blog and poll. So the context of this has nothing to do with what I said. So this is just a strawman argument.
That's why I didn't add "IT DEPENDS" because it doesn't matter to me,
It doesn't matter if it matters to Mykan or not.
and even if DOES matter, then it gets too complicated. I can't tell what is or what isn't.
How can Mykan possibly know that it gets too complicated if it doesn't matter? He's literally making claims that he can't possibly know if it doesn't actually matter.
(Then again, knowing all my retarded haters... they'll just sulking is bullying)
Fuck you, Mykan! You have no right calling us retarded when it's you who's incapable of comprehending something that doesn't fit into a simple dichotomy!
Also...
they'll just sulking is bullying
Can I assume that you intentionally wrote gibberish to try to trap your haters or something like that, or are you just that illiterate?
Okay, I'm better. Let's continue.
All I want is a simple ALL YES... or ALL NO answer.
Okay...
*Punches Twilight across the face*
did anybody REALLY get punched?
Yes or No? Did you punch Twilight in the face or not?
And I'll also tell you this... if "It DEPENDS" wins...
...I'm afraid that means it's 100% "YES, you are a bully"
I'm not gonna try to search for a specific comment. But I believe you told me that it's "Innocent until proven guilty". That's a direct contradiction to your claim that "It Depends" means "Yes". You want to turn to True Trichotomy into a False Dichotomy. You want to make it so that Chocolate and Vanilla are the only options for ice cream. All I did was add Strawberry as an option. And last I checked, Strawberry isn't in between Chocolate and Vanilla, it's just a 3rd option. "It Depends" isn't in-between "Yes" and "No", it's just a 3rd option. And if you want to assume "It Depends has to be either "Yes" or "No" the logical assumption would be no, because saying "It Depends" isn't confirmation.
At most, you would split the "It Depends" votes in half. Then the "No" votes would be in the lead.
because I know people will make their excuses to say "Yes it does make you a bully." period.
If they would've made that excuse, then they wouldn't vote "It Depends", they would've voted "Yes".
Also, 68.75% (so far). If you were to put all the "It Depends" votes on your poll into "No", and do the same with my poll, they look relatively the same. I do have a smaller sample size though (so far). Either way, we both got only 2 yes votes.
I won't do any "In the MIDDLES" with this one
Red or Green
No in-between.
Orange.
Seriously, look at a color spectrum chart, and Orange is in between Red and Green. So if it comes down to Red or Green... I'd pick both since Xmas is coming.🎄
Anyway, I'm sure Mykan is looking forward to that annual lump of coal in his stocking this year.
Honestly, I think that Mykan misinterpreted the intention of the poll. He probably believes that if someone votes "Yes", they're saying that Mykan harming fictional characters is the same as bullying rather than the actual meaning of being a telling sign of a possible bully. Personally, I believe that if Mykan didn't bully fictional characters, he would be a bully in real life. And it's because he admits to it being a therapeutic way to vent. Bullying fictional characters keeps him from being a bully in real life.
But we're not done yet. I want to address a comment on his blog as well (and update later with more comments if applicable).
I think the main reason people declare it real bullying is because when they get attached to certain characters, they began to perceive them as real, so any bad thing that happens to the characters, cannon or non-cannon, is viewed as an attack, is kinda where accusation fics are born.
First of all, people can grow attached to characters and still acknowledge that they are just fictional characters. The sign of good writing is when the audience grows emotionally attached to the characters after all.
Also, that logic works both ways. Just like how people who defend characters do so often because of emotional reasons, people who hate and hurt those same characters ALSO do it for emotional reasons. You can't accuse defenders of emotional attachment without accusing haters of emotional attachment.
Then again, based on Mykan's reasoning of
did anybody REALLY get punched?
Mykan has no reason to hate Twilight or Cadance or Flurry Heart or any of those other characters because they are just fictional characters who never wronged him in any way. They can't do anything to him because they're fictional characters. He can't do anything to them because they're fictional characters. They are incapable of even making him angry, and they are incapable of being a source to vent the anger on.
Then again, Mykan also has a "rules for thee, but not for me" mentality. He's a hypocrite.
That's not true...
We don't just watch TV, we FEEL it (Seeing certain things makes us feel) so yes, TV shows are capable of making us all happy/sad/angry.. the works.
Twilight and Cadance do make me angry because I don't like the way they are portrayed, or how they handle things, or in the end they have it so easy. It's time for them to experience loss, earn those scars and burns that will haunt them every day and never heal even with time. It's time for their methods to fail them.
It doesn't matter how silly you think it is... it's real, and it happens, and YES you did just imply it by saying I have no reason to be angry with them.
Cadance needs to learn True love DOESN'T really conquer all
Twilight needs to learn that Friendship CANNOT solve all things...
...And so do you, and everyone else.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. You're the one who said that they're just cartoon characters. If they're just cartoon characters, then there's no emotional attachment. If you have an emotional reaction to them, then you have to acknowledge that they are more than just cartoon characters.
If your issue is with their portrayal, or rather, your personal interpretation of their portrayal, then your issue isn't with the characters, it's with the writers of the show.
And how do they have it easy?
Also, I never implied that I think it's silly.
