Never Forget. · 11:52pm Sep 11th, 2021
I've never done a blog on this particular day because I have my own way of honoring those that were killed during the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
I lived through this event. To put it very bluntly. Granted I was not there on the ground and I was to young to help during and post incident, but I do remember that day a bit to vividly, even though I was only 5 at the time. I woke up to my mother, in absolute shock, shouting 'Oh my god!' Moments later I came out from the hallway to see the North Tower of the World Trade centers alight with the lethal flames on the t.v. that would eventually consume the building. It was a school day that has forever been ingrained in my mind. Rumors and shock ran rampant as we all wanted to know what had happened. It started off as an accident, then a second plane hit. Then came the possible collapse that would later end with the confirmation of the tragedy we all know...
As I have grown into the young man I am, it has only solidified within me how tragic this event truly was.
It just hits harder knowing what I know now.
And I have so many friends now that were either just starting life or were born post incident and sometimes I still struggle with the concept that people were born after the year 2000. They don't know the feeling, as many don't. Which is fine. But you have to remember that this is one of the worst terrorist attack in American history and it was the worst American tragedy since Pearl Harbor. 3000 lives, innocent people involved in no war, just going about their daily lives, gone. In the blink of an eye. And the heroes that selflessly ran into those buildings, full well knowing the dangers they faced, did it to save lives.
Damn... makes me cry...
Rightfully so...
If you ever get the chance as I have, go and visit any location that honors and remembers this tragedy, do it. I highly implore you to do it. I had the chance in 2013 to visit the Newseum in Washington D.C. and the memorial there. It really hits home what happened.
Just please...
Never forget.
I was just two when it happened and you're right we must never forget otherwise the efforts of those first responders who gave their lives and the lessons we learnt afterwards will have all been in vain
