[EQG ADJACENT] Found another one! · 6:19pm Aug 4th, 2021
So I've already told in a previous blog post about how I'm noticing characters from other books and series that are awefully danged similar to our favorite horse-girls. Well, I found another one:
The Gallagher Girls series features Cammie, daughter of one of the most legendary spies to ever work in the CIA. Her father died on a mission, and after that Cam's mother chose retirement, but not leaving the field completely. She takes over as headmistress for The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a school that looks like an ordinary prep school in New England, but is actually a top-secret (as in, you have to have higher clearance than some agency directors to even know of the truth of its existence) training academy for the next generation of spies, secret agents, analysts, code-makers and -breakers, and alphabet spooks.
Cammie (Sunset) is, herself, a savant in covert operations, able to gather intel, blend in, and is the natural leader of her peer group, for all that she feels overshadowed by her mother, Headmistress Morgan (Celestia). She quickly forms a tight-knit friendship with Liz (SciTwi) and Bex (...? Not sure here, probably a British Applejack?), and partway through Cam's sophomore year, they're joined by Macey (Gilda), daughter of a U.S. Senator.
Honestly, I was a bit on the fence, in spite of the absolutely uncanny way Headmistress Morgan resembles Principal Celestia (both in the writing of her character and in the performance by the audiobook narrator), until it's revealed that Cammie has an aunt that's been somewhat estranged from the family for reasons that I haven't gotten to yet since before Cam's father died. Aunt Abby (Luna) is Headmistress Morgan's younger sister and a Secret Service agent.
Best of all, the prequel is available for free on Audible! (Or at least it was when I picked it up)
Ah, the joy of filing off serial numbers.
