Greetings, fellow users.
As promised, here is my blogpost about the issues surrounding the user Princess Cadence that transpired recently, told from the perspective of one who got caught up in the situation.
Two days ago, the user Princess Cadence posted a story entitled Our Voices Matter Too. The narrative concerned a romantic relationship between Sweetie Belle and Luster Dawn, only the former was an adult and the latter was a foal. This is relevant for much of what happened later.
The story was added to the Pride and Positivity group's contest folder, where it was later removed on the grounds that it, in the mods eyes, promoted pedophilia. The story itself was also quickly reviewed, with many users reacting negatively to the content-myself being one of them.
Princess Cadence then responded to many of the negative comments by deleting them, so myself and a user called mrmidnight set about copying many of these reviews into the blog comments section to preserve them.
At this point, it seemed like a case of an author who couldn't handle negative criticism. In addition to posting these reviews, several users including myself made jokes about the author's conduct which in retrospect were harsh and rather callous, and for this I apologise.
However, none of us had any idea of what was going on behind the scenes. Apparently, Cadence was being bombarded with messages of hate and being told to kill herself. Let me make this abundantly clear; telling somebody to kill themselves is NEVER acceptable, no matter what you feel about them.
As you can probably guess, Cadence's suicide note caught us all off-guard. Having no prior knowledge of her mental health issues, we had no idea this would tip her over the edge. In response, Fimfiction users from across the globe rallied to locate her. These efforts were spearheaded by users Estee and Flutterpriest, and eventually Cadence decided not to go through with her attempt.
And there it could have ended. Unfortunately, at the same time the users on the previously mentioned blog, who were reviewing the story and expressing their displeasure at foalcon and pedophilia were suddenly attacked as bullies and murderers. I was one of the recipients of such comments. I quote one of the comments (the name of the poster is being left out, so that other users don't go after them);
So, how does being complicit in murder feel? Is it a good feeling? Is it arousing? Exciting? Uplifting? Does it make you feel accomplished, snuffing out a person's light? If Princess Cadance killed herself, and so far everything points to it that she did, you have so much blood on your hooves that nothing can ever wash it away again.
No, saying "She's faking suicide to gain sympathy" does not free you of your guilt. Neither does saying "I didn't know she would react like this".
Because, oh really? You bully an author for the stories they love writing and when that author commits suicide, you didn't realize this could be the outcome? Really? No one lives that much under a rock that they don't know the very real consequences of bullying and harassment. You don't. You don't live under that rock. You knew exactly this could happen. All of you, mrmidnight and everyone who supported him here, are responsible for this.
Let this sink in, deeply. If Princess Cadance is dead, then all of you murdered someone. And you have to live with that for the rest of your lives. Let it sink in.
To say that emotions were running high was something of an understatement, but none of us had sent messages to Cadence or attacked her as a person. The murder and bullying accusations were completely unwarranted, however; all we were doing was reviewing a story.
It's been a hard few days, but I finally feel I can write about this mess. Cadence, last we checked, is OK and taking a break from the site.
As one last word on this matter; as much as you may dislike a user, telling them to off themselves or sending violent threats to anybody is never an option.

As for the situation itself, I do agree both sides are at fault here; yeah, going and normalizing a romantic child/adult relationship as “cute and acceptable” is extremely beyond disgusting and wrong, but at the same time, responding by telling this person to “kill themselves” or sending other death threats is a step too far.

I'm just going to tell you that you, Blue EM2, are at no fault here. Calling out and reporting pedophilia is not something to be ashamed of, or for. I don't know much about this business, but you had nothing to do with anything that happened for your actions. I read that story in question before commenting here, and I can say that even from an artistic point of view that it's a person's projection of their own sexual deviancy. Just try to live your life as best you can. This business will come to an end.
