Estee liveblogs Luca: tonight (6/27) on the Discord server at 6 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time · 1:13pm Jun 27th, 2021

People seemed to have fun the first time. Of course, most of their entertainment came from watching me suffer and this is a Pixar movie, so suffering is not guaranteed. It's not as if I'm going Cars 2 here. That is suffering. And Mater, which is pretty much the same thing.

There are no bribes required to make me do this, because it's a Pixar movie and I was going to watch it regardless. (You can always bribe anyway.) I also don't need anything to access the film, because I was able to maintain my Disney + account: it came up as a reward on Disney Movie Insiders. But it'll be the same thing we did with The Emoji Movie. I'll watch the movie on my tablet, liveblogging my reactions with the desktop. I'll talk about what I think of the production, the plot, the characters, and I will probably be profoundly homesick for three hours --

-- and there's the suffering! Now we've got an audience!

So as before, let's set this up.

Here's the link to my Discord server. The viewing will be conducted in the #deadstreaming channel: as above, that's starting at 6 p.m. Eastern Daylight tonight. The discussion/liveblog will pretty much spoil the entire film as it happens, so if you don't want to know, don't look. (I waited a bit on this one to give people a chance at getting their own viewings in.)

Now that I have some experience, I can safety say this will likely double the running time. (I have to pause and type a lot.) As with the first film, I have not seen the movie yet: however, I have seen most of the trailers and the associated short clips, so I'm not going in completely blind.

There will be an @everyone blast just before the movie starts, to alert all server members. I apologize for that in advance.

Hoping to see some of you in the server tonight.

Maybe it'll be a good movie.

At the very least, it can't be Cars 2.

(It would have to be Vespa 1.)
(The trailers seem to focus a lot on that Vespa.)

There's going to be another blog in an hour or two. I solved the Amazon wishlist problem. Or rather, someone else did.

Cars 1 was great. Cars 2 suffered from trying to be a Bond movie, but with cars, but without Bond, though they did have Sir Michael Caine (whose always-laudable performance still couldn't save the film from itself). At the very least, Lightning McQueen learned a friendship lesson in the end.

Cars 3 was way better than I thought it would be, though it was not without characterization hiccups, mostly in the antagonist corner.

I love kids movies where kids are free to act like kids, not some adult stuffed animal by a small body. Insert Dumbledore quote here about old people needing to remember what it was like to be young.

I enjoyed Luca quite a bit, I'm curious to see what you think. Any chance of a follow-up blog? I probably won't be able to be around for the live reactions.

Possibly, but not until Tuesday at the earliest. Monday will hopefully be used for a chapter.

Oh, you're in for a treat. I found this a rather chill film.

I found this to be a very charming slice-of-life film, especially once they make it to town.
