One Year Later · 8:23pm Mar 11th, 2021
Hey, y'all!
In two days, it will have been a year since I packed up and moved out of my college apartment, still thinking I'd be back in a few short weeks. On the one hand, it's strange to think it's been that long... but, on the other, the amount of creative work I managed to cram into that time period is utterly insane.
That's what I wanted to talk to you all about. While I'm not here to list out all the things I did to stay busy during the pandemic, I am here to remind you all of one thing in particular: Hearts Beat.
I started writing Hearts Beat because I needed something to do. I wanted to make sure other people would hold me accountable for my work so that I wouldn't be tempted to shrug my shoulders and drop it. Everything felt pretty dismal, and I was questioning the ability for writing (and, by extension, other art forms) to help me through that. I don't think I can adequately describe just how much it meant to me to have people hanging on my every chapter, to have people reach out when I was late posting, even to inspire other people to take on similar challenges to boost their own creativity during such a difficult time. Those memories are... really really good. And they're forever going to be a part of this year and this struggle for me.
So, first of all, I want to say thank you. You may not have known it, but by reading, commenting, favoriting, or even just chatting about Hearts Beat, you gave me the boost I needed. I honestly don't know how I would have faired without you all.
Second of all, we're approaching the anniversary of Hearts Beat - It was started on April 10th, completed on May 9th - and I've been thinking about how I'd like to celebrate that. I thought maybe I'd let the date pass and just be privately happy, but I've been thinking about doing some... other stuff. So, without further ado, here's what you can look forward to:
- Starting on April 9th, I will be heavily editing each chapter of Hearts Beat. It was written quickly, in case you hadn't noticed, and it deserves a revamp. If you're interested in following through again, you can read each chapter on the one-year anniversary of its publication to enjoy the super-duper version!
- Some art probably, because I love doing art. Especially the self-indulgent kind.
- On May 9th, a sequel will be hitting fimfic. It's a projected 8 (beefy af) chapters, and I'll be publishing one chapter each day until it's finished. I've been working on it for quite a while now, so I hope you will all enjoy it :) I don't wanna give too much more information, but it was your comments that inspired me to write it!! Some of you got very attached to certain aspects of the story, much to my surprise, and I have spent nearly a year considering these missing pieces... hopefully your questions will be answered ;)
