    FAQ of questions nobody asked

If I'm back I might as well reintroduce myself with random questions nobody cares for but I still feel like answering
    Q: best pony?
    A: still Twilight, nothing's changed

    Q:... Who are you?

    Possibly to be more active??

I didn't intend for this to happen
I kinda forgot how fun the site was so I might be coming back sorta. Not gonna be mega active but I'm always up for an excuse to ignore school. Writing is fun and I feel bad leaving everyone on a cliffhanger for like a year so I owe you all that

The Generation That Even Time Has Forgotten Random Info · 8:41pm Nov 29th, 2012

First of all, first blog entry for me! Let's celebrate!
...
Okay, that's enough celebrating.

I daresay that you've seen my story The Generation That Even Time Has Forgotten already (which will be conveniently shortened to TGTETHF when referred to in the future), and that you've had a few questions about my inspiration.
No?
Well, then have some pointless trivia anyway.

-I grew up with G3 (I was born three years before it started), so I originally thought it was like the bestest thing ever. Needless to say, I was obsessed with the show, and still have my 70+ ponies from the time in a large bin. I really should take them out sometime and put them all on shelves or something.
-Around the time a bit after The Runaway Rainbow was released, I started getting more and more distant from the show. In fact, by the time G3.5 came along, I completely lost interest.
-Skip a few years later, when G4 was announced. At the time I migrated to liking G1 more, and I compared all of the ponies to their older generation counterparts. (Interestingly enough, I compared Twilight Sparkle's personality with North Star's, and concluded that I would pretty much hate her. Now she's my favorite pony.) I thought that the new show would stink and went back to my G1
-After watching the first episode of G4, my jaw literally dropped. It was far better than I ever expected, and I soon grew to favor it over my G1's
-After a year or two of silently stalking the brony community, I finally decided to contribute. However, I couldn't draw very well, and making music and animations was definitely out of the picture. It was very difficult to find projects that needed voice acting for the ponies I could do, so I settled to writing, which I found that I was fairly good at. The only thing I can't do well, however, is think of story ideas. My sister would always give them to me, so I went to her for help.
-She jokingly suggested I teleport Twilight into G3, because she knew how crazy about it I used to be, and we went on to come up with a whole entire story about it, because that's what we do whenever we think of some ridiculous idea. Don't judge us.
-I soon realized that the idea wasn't half bad, but I knew no way on how to get her to G3. I shelved the idea.
-After I was a few episodes into Season 2, I realized that Discord could easily bend logic and do anything, including teleport ponies to other dimensions. That night I wrote out a short outline of an idea, adding on to the story as I wrote it.
-Aaaand now I'm here!

Okay, that turned more into a life story. Sorry.
Hope that settled your conscience or something if you really cared that much.

(As stated above I suck at story ideas. I wish people would give me theirs. Hint hint :P)

Wait, was not G3 in 2003? :pinkiegasp:

552588
Well, it started when I was like able to actually think.
That was when I was 3.
Shut up that's close enough :twilightangry2:

zel

552595 Still. People like you make me feel old.
dl.dropbox.com/u/93510029/reaction/okay.gif

552732
I'm the youngest in every single pony group I'm in
Granted I'm only in like one :derpytongue2:

zel

552784 And yet, you are far better writer than me. Oh well //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Sweetie_Belle_lolface.png

552813
There are reasons I'm already taking a college class even though I'm in middle school because I got a 27 composite score on the ACT~
(Totallynotbraggingnope)

zel

552842 You made that sound as if you implied that I know what this means. //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Bonbon_gaze.png

Probably some american thing.

552861
Yeah, the ACT is like some big fat stupid test you have to take.
The highest score possible is 36, I got 27, and the average for people older than me is 18-20
But who cares, we have ponies!

552905
Duke Talent Search? (They did this thing where they gave SAT's to promising middle school students. I got a 1200 out of 1600 possible (they've added a section so scores are higher now) average for highschoolers is around 1000. Without any special 'cramming the test'. I could see them doing ACT through.

552732
Would it make you feel better if I told you I was old enough that I, well, my parents bought me Battlestar Galactica toys because I thought Vipers were cool, and I had one of the ones that got all the toy missile toys banned because some kid shot it down his throat and choked to death?

553476
Why does it seem like like my state is the only one that does ACT? :derpyderp1:
And because I scored so high, I can technically get a full scholarship to some pretty awesome colleges right now even though I'm not even in high school yet :pinkiecrazy:
I did get an almost perfect score on the english/reading stuff, so I'm taking an english class at a college right now because I wanted to write about ponies really good :yay:

553604
With that score, and a 1539 out of 1600 when I retook it in high school...
I had to take the ACT because none of the colleges I applied to accepted the SAT. (wtf).

(otoh I knew someone who took the ACT 4 times. He got every question right 3 times in a row. They wouldn't accredit his score. The last time he took it, he missed one question, on purpose.)

553603
Am I still making you feel old or something?
<-- also remembers seeing Star Wars when it was just 'Star Wars'.

553679
Woah that's good :pinkiegasp:
Hopefully once I actually learn the stuff on the test (such as math, I can't do math:ajsleepy: ) I'll do better.
I seriously guessed so much on the math portion that I got a higher trigonometry score than basic algebra :twilightsheepish:

zel

553690

<-- also remembers seeing Star Wars when it was just 'Star Wars'.

You would need to be over 40 to remember it? :rainbowhuh:

553700 Math is the only thing I am decent at :moustache:

553735
This is where we differ greatly :rainbowlaugh:
Math is my worst class :twilightoops:
<---- Not looking forward to learning trigonometry and calculus in a few years :raritydespair:

553700
I got the highest score in my state (average was 950ish at the time).
But they wanted the ACT where my parents moved to after I took the test.
This was also before the real boom in the SAT/ACT 'prep industry', when you'd have 1 perfect SAT score every couple of years. In fact our state had passed a law about the time I was in middle school to prohibit school districts from have an SAT prep week or weeks, which was common. (Now it's expected. They have an ACT prep MONTH in my current state, I'm told. It's state law.) Now it's an average of 20-30 perfects per year.
Also, don't skimp on the classwork. Another problem even after my (iirc) 35 composite ACT was the 4 year colleges all said 'not possible, you can't be a 35 ACT with a 3.1 gpa', so I ended up having to do a 2 year college and get an associates degree before I could apply again.

553741 Trigonometry is cool, algebra is awesome. Right now I am past matrixes (matrices?) and vectors, this is incredibly easy. As for calculus.. Bleh... I can barely do limits.

553747
That really stinks :pinkiesad2:
So far, I've been getting all A's and like one A- (not counting my terrible test score I got on my math exam yesterday :fluttercry: )

My inspiration for aiming to get good grades (next to like college and stuff) is Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight Sparkle is the best study motivator.

553735
Depends on how good a memory you have. That would be anytime before Empire was released. But yah. 40.
Ok 41.
Alright, 42 in less than a month.
:twilightangry2:
553741
Calculus is a wonderful thing. I LOVE calculus.
Trig is easy once you understand the basics.
Algebra can become a real bear, but some of the real bear algebra is simple calculus! Did I mention I love calculus? I was helping a friend's kid with their math homework, only I couldn't get the right answer because the algebra was a fire breathing Ursa Major, but I knew the right answer because I could figure it out with calculus in 30 seconds. :pinkiesad2:

Calculus is a wonderful thing. I LOVE calculus.

dl.dropbox.com/u/93510029/reaction/whatgif.gif

553793
STOP BEING SO SMART :rainbowlaugh:
I'm gonna try and be proud of my writing skills now to make me feel better :twilightblush:

553760
You only do limits because limits let you understand what calculus is.
Calculus more than anything else is the true math of the world. Calculus is how you figure out how fast Rainbow Dash was flying when she caught Rarity. Calculus is how you determine if the tower that unicorn is jumping off of is tall enough for her to cast the flutterwings spell before she reaches the ground.
Calculus rocks.

zel

553888 I would say it is somewhere in the physics department...
Whatever, I am not a mathematician, but a poor computer science student. //dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Cheerilee.png

553879
There are lots of types of smart. I'm one, you're another. Don't let it get to you. I can't write to save my life.

553916
Yay for having smarts! :yay:

553913
Actually I do network engineering and systems management.
But I went to college for electrical engineering.
(Lots of calculus. WEEEEEE!)
What's scary is the amount of calculus used in the financial markets. What's scarier is the people using it a) don't understand calculus, and b) are using what they are using completely wrong.

I still remember in 1st grade when we played with your G3 ponies and your cat 'attacked' Ponyville. :rainbowlaugh: I miss those days.

597008
The pegasi air force saved the day though!

Yeah... That was fun. :raritystarry:

552842 Congratulations! Here's a cookie.
24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_md1rbqC8u71rfx2ino1_250.jpg
But seriously, good job. It really is impressive.

553849 I take it that you agree with me that calculus is pure, undiluted evil?

553741 Here's a tip for taking calculus: If you need to take more than one calculus class (My school has Calculus I, Calculus II, and Calculus III for example I think) don't take one, wait a semester or three, and then take the next one. It's a bad idea. (Going from personal experience here.) Take them one after the other. Also, even if homework doesn't count as a part of your grade, do it, it will help to get the knowledge to "stick". (Yet another reason why I'm doing so poorly in my Calc. II class.)
Integrals can be pretty annoying too.:pinkiesick:
Still, I'm confident that you can do it.

553760 Trigonometry is also another one of my weaknesses.:twilightblush:

zel

601454 The stuff I have to learn for Calculus exam is not even solvable by wolfram alpha. :facehoof:

Also, algebra with trigonometry is my second favourite subject right after programming. Useful stuff here actually.

601477 I mean, I can understand where some of the calculus would be useful (finding area between curves and volumes of solids of rotation between curves), but I still struggle with it. I've already failed 3 tests, and I don't know how well I did on the one I took today (Better than the other ones though, I believe.).

I really hate having to deal with sin, cos, tan, cot, csc, and sec, and please don't even get me started on arcsin, arctan, etc..

You're a programmer? I took a couple of programming courses in high school. Microsoft Visual Basic and Java.

zel

601508 C++. :pinkiesmile:

I can understand where some of the calculus would be useful

Please, enlighten me. :twilightoops:
On the other hand, all trig functions are very logical and incredibly useful, especially for game programming.

601520 If you're making or building something you may be able to use it...I'm not explaining very well. Maybe you need to figure out how much a bowl, vase, or some other container can hold...something about rotating the area bound by two lines and/or curves over an axis to form a three dimensional shape...you know what, I'm just going to post gifs which will hopefully help to explain (but they may not.)

I grew up with G3 (I was born three years after it started

So you're six?

Or is that an error that was supposed to be before? So that probably means you're twelve.

612790
Thank you for catching that :facehoof:

personaly i love all the pony generations, even g2 my little pony tales. sadly though if you ever ever say you like the stupid my little pony g3.5baby episode i will hunt you down and gut you like a fish.
THAT BEING SAID. im a total fan of the entire show of all generation, as you can kind of guess by my little rant.
ive personally read a few stories that relate back to g3 and so on, spike generations, for one and a minty summer sun celebration(i think thats the title) for another. anywhoi thought your personaified the g3 ponies characters quite well. WELL DONE.

AND ON THAT NOTE I WILL SHAMELESSLY ask for your help if you want to give it? if not i dont care but it would be appreciated. FIRSTLY how on earth do you get past the first couple of lines in a story, i mean whats your method. me personally im having trouble pieceing together my own story beginning, like i know how i want it, its just the wording and other ideas/information im toying with, im having trouble putting down onto the page. AND SECONDLY please please take a look at my blog, im in total need of names for the g4 ancestors(you will know what i mean if you look at my blog.)
if you do look at it and comment on it that would be a great help.

816901
Well, I'll reply to your first question here, because relevant.
Honestly, I think I kind of cheated with my current story because it started as a completely normal day. That's pretty easy to figure out. :derpytongue2:
But actually, this tactic is pretty effective for stories, because it helps you get a feel of the characters when they're in their own environment. After all, you can't have character development if we don't know how a character acts in the first place! :rainbowwild:
But for actual wording, I usually think of that right when I think of the story idea. It just kinda comes naturally, I guess :twilightblush:

This is pretty much how I feel reading this thread
derpy.me/ACjxo
I, too, can do maths!

I literary almost started laughing like a crazy person, I GREW UP WITH G3 TOO! Corse i don't have the toys, but I have the princess promenade (sometimes i threaten my brony friends with it :scootangel:)

866621
I didn't like the end of Princess Promenade even when I was a little kid. I did like how it showed that it sucks being a princess, because I never wanted to be one growing up :derpytongue2:

867047 "You get to be a princess! You get to be a princess! EVERYPONY GETS TO BE A PRINCESS!"
:unsuresweetie: Not sure what lesson that was at the end...

867264
The best lesson in history :derpytongue2:
