Personally, I don't feel like real people and fanfiction should mix. It's one thing to write about fictional characters, but borrowing a real person and plopping them in a story can be awkward.

I'd say to maybe put their in-game selves into the story, rather than human versions. Tone could match better, and everything could be less awkward, if that is a worry.

I like the idea of a tyrranical mayor Scar taking over and the Mycelium Resistance is trying to help the ponies get their home back, and the Dream Team is unbiased and going around threatening horses with their swords but all they're trying to do is get leather.
