    Resonance

After two and half years another long project comes to an end and with it—a moment of quiet retrospection before I ought to look back and start learning. Aside from the ‘Behind the stage’ section, this blog is relatively spoiler-free.

    Plans I have trouble following

I am still pretty much alive, but the recent events of my life lead me to make a few adjustments in regards to some things I spoke about in my last blog.

Resonance and whatnot · 4:47am Dec 21st, 2020

Greetings to everyone.

Before I start going into unnecessary detail with the rest of the blog and in case you missed it—the first chapter of Aftersound’s sequel is out

I’ll start with a short recap of this year. Long story short—it sucked for me and I look back at it in utter disappointment.

Such a sentiment is not uncommon these days, taking into account the pandemic and how it affected already uneasy lives. However, that wasn’t precisely what made the last twelve months so despondent for me and why I am so unhappy with it.

If you bothered to look at everything I’ve posted, you might notice that there is a stark difference between the amount I published in 2019 and 2020. A four-times difference, if we are being somewhat precise. Sure, I posted more stories this year, but they were short. Some would say it is about quality rather than quantity, but that is debatable.

My point is that I’ve been very unproductive. There are many reasons for that: I started 2020 unemployed and changed jobs twice with periods of more unemployment between them. Though my current job is rather good, the other two sucked ass. I also had some other unpleasant stuff to deal with; most notably, there were a few months when I had no PC/laptop and had to write using a smartphone and a BT keyboard.

It all doesn’t quite justify my lack of productivity but was one of the major reasons I struggled to find any motivation to write when I did have time. Regardless, I am disappointed with myself.

However, it’s not all bad.

I often returned to my own works and talked a lot with my proofreaders about the things I’ve done right and wrong. Besides that, I did a lot of thinking about what constitutes a good story, became acquainted with a few commendable works and analyzed them.

As a result, I now approach writing completely differently compared to how I used to. It is impossible for me to judge if that is for better or worse and how it reflected on the quality of anything I posted this year, but I’d like to believe I’ve improved as a writer.

You are probably bored out of your mind reading this, so I’ll move on to a piece of more interesting information, such as my plans for the next year.

Obviously, it is Resonance. There is still a lot of work to be done in the planning department, but I’m ready to write and post the first arc, which should give me about four-five months to polish out the rest of the story. Speaking of which, I already mentioned it in the author’s notes for the first chapters—it is going to be a long ride.

While we are on the topic of the Aftersoundverse, I should mention that there are at least two side stories I have in mind. I’m also extending my ‘re-editing program’ for three more chapters of Aftersound and consider going through the entirety of the story.

I’d also like to work on a couple more relatively short stories unrelated to Aftersound. I recall promising a clop story involving Fluttershy and another with Celestia and Luna (not to mention I still haven’t finished one; not like anyone cares, though).

Now to the part you are likely to care the least about—Niello.

It is still in works and there is a ton yet to do, something I am going to focus on over the next year. Meanwhile, I am going to practice not only by writing Resonance but also working on something else—an original story for which I don’t even have a title yet.

Since this is a website dedicated to My Little Pony fanfiction, I am not going to post it here (that applies to Niello as well, obviously). However, when either of them is ready, I’m going to post a link here and leave another one in my page description. While I hope to start writing it in the next year, I make no promises—I want it to be a really high-quality work and that means I can’t let myself rush just because I am impatient to share.

In conclusion—I wasn’t very productive this year, but I plan to amend that and I have started it already by continuing Aftersound’s tale, which is not going to be the only story you see from me in the near future.

Happy Holidays and see you next year!

My Discord server. While it doesn’t have much going on at the moment, I tend to post news on my progress there at a rate more frequent than it happens here. And if you are interested in my non-pony stuff, then you may find it necessary to keep track of those projects' progress.

Thanks for reading.

Stay Awesome,

Oneimare
