It's October! · 2:51am Oct 7th, 2020
... holy shit, it's October?
Time is meaningless.
But anyway!
So I'm currently sitting in front of my laptop, in the weird mood of "well, it's dark out, but I probably shouldn't go to bed JUST yet." And, uh, here we are.
So yeah. I'm being something of a slacker as I haven't touched my quarantine novel (as in, a novel I'm writing in quarantine, rather than a novel ABOUT quarantine) for the last two days. Though to be fair Monday wound up being a little crazy, and I actually DID write some stuff this morning ... just on a different, unrelated project. Oop.
Really, if I got ambitious, I might have a go at writing something Horror themed, for the holiday. I mean, the one time I dabbled in Horror seemed to work out fairly well. Though I'm not quite sure what I'd do with such a story just yet. Cabin Fervor was pretty fun to write, but at the same time it touched on most of the points I wanted to in such a story. Not to mention I'm a sucker for happy endings -and- continuity, so it's not like I'm gonna kill off any of the Mane 7. I suppose I could cook up some OC's or background characters to feed into the grinder, but ... eh?
On the other hand (hoof?) Cabin Fervor 2 does have a certain VHS-era ring to it. Could just go in a completely different direction ... though honestly the only thing that springs immediately to mind is some kind of Rarijack nonsense where the two of them hole up together for a long weekend and just do a lot of cute stuff. Which ... could be horror-esque if you're one of those deviants who's ride or die for AppleDash or whatever, but that's neither here nor there.
Alternately, Flash Sentry bounces around genres fairly easily. And, y'know, since his whole schtick is being terrified and running away, that could work for horror of some stripe ... just a matter of determining what sort of horrid beastie to throw at him. Which ... hm. Now that I'm typing, I'm getting vague ideas. Might actually give it a shot if I can think of a proper title. Like, hmm. "The Hills Have Friends" actually has a ring to it, but that's probably not the particular horror movie I'd want to riff on. Plus, writing Sentry horror might be a little challenging 'cause Special Agent Golden Harvest is really good at kicking monsters in the face. Hm.
That, and only like twelve people read The Flash Sentry Papers anyway. :)
Speaking of which! In my idle musings, I wondered to myself "Hey, should I put together a TVtropes page for the Flash Sentry Papers?" I mean, TVtropes does have a "nothing is too obscure" policy, after all. Though on the flipside I've never really edited TVtropes before, and it seems a little late to be posting stuff up on there. The fandom is dead, etc.
In any case, it's just another project I may or may not fiddle around with in the coming weeks. Oh! And NaNoWriMo is fast approaching too, isn't it? I may give that a go, only to fail inevitably. So that's ... something to look forward to, right? Kinda?
Anyway, hope the rest of you guys are doing well, or at least as well as one can manage in these "interesting" times.
I'd love to see whatever you might come up with for the month of October. (I keep forgetting to read The Flash Sentry Papers and I'm so sorry about that. I just keep losing track between all the OTHER stories in my inbox plus the ones that I myself want to write. DX)
Someone slacking in quarantine? I'm shocked I say! Shocked!
Also the twelve of us who read the Flash Sentry papers reaaaally like 'em, so more is good I think.
Anyway good luck with all the projects dude, keep us posted.
Flash horror story! (Quality over quantity, every time!)
There are dozens of us! Dozens!
Well, if we're being seasonal, Golden might have too many eyes on her during Nightmare Night preparations to equus ex machina her way to Flash's rescue. (At least for a while.) Indeed, I can't help but imagine Flash trying to help with the local festivities. Possibly by putting together a haunted house, only to disturb actual restless spirits. The question, of course, is what's more terrifying: Screeching shades hungering for his soul or spectral Ponyvillians wanting to know when he'll tie the knot.
Also, there's definitely an argument for a TV Tropes page. Looking at the Flashman page should help you get started.
I'm still working my way through the Flash Sentry Papers.
