Snow Heart by Nailah
Seer by Seer

Snow Heart

Snow Heart had managed to make some free time on her calendar. She had Frost Heart handling her "Princess" duties for a few days so she could have a vacation. She couldn't recall the last time she just did something for herself. Always so busy, meeting and greeting random ponies that just wanted an autograph and didn't even know her. That's how fame was she guessed. Was she famous? She didn't think so, gosh she didn't want to think about it. The pony handler had gotten her into a harness for rock climbing and secured all the straps and such. Snow Heart loved climbing, a secret love of hers, not even her sister know about. She smirked looking at the mountain in front of her. She noticed a pony or creature, it was a little hard to tell looking like they were struggling getting ready. "Um, hello there do you need help?"

Seer

"Ah, yeah if you wouldn't mind," they replied, stepping out of the shadows and revealing themselves to be a small, white deer. Their antlers lit up with a purple flare of magic for a moment, giving a final, token attempt to telekinetically put the harness right. But after only a couple of seconds, they gave up with a frustrated sigh.
"I swear they make these things harder every single year."

Snow Heart

"Sure, I don't mind. I am always happy to help. Might I know who you are? I'm Snow Heart it's a pleasure to meet you." she smiled towards the deer. She could never tell deer apart, was it a male or a girl? Deer were complicated like that, so she was going to do her best. She carefully went over to them, adjusting the straps, being polite and respectful. She often worked with others closely so she knew what she was doing. Once everything was properly hooked up, she grinned. "there you go, now you can climb all you want with no trouble or fuss. It's great isn't it? The freedom to just do whatever you want with no responsibilities!"

Seer

"Oh! I'm no one special," the deer replied, smiling inscrutably, but genuinely. They turned to the mountain and looked over it for a short period, seemingly considering their next words.
"It is, but don't you find that moments like this are often so fleeting? I can climb the mountain today as much as I'd like, but sooner or later, the harness must come off. Here's hoping I can find you when that time comes! I think I might need another hand with that!"

Snow Heart

"No one special? Awwwh. I'm sure that's not true. Every creature is special for some reason or another. But I can respect if you just don't wanna say." replied Snow Heart, as she reached a hoof out to grip at the base of the rope, and hooked it over the terrain she'd be climbing. The harness was a safety thing that the ponies out here required so no creature hurt themselves. They didn't know Snow Heart was an experienced climber, and didn't seem to acknowledge her wings. Which to her was a blessing. The more often others didn't mention her "Princess" ness the more often she felt normal. "Don't worry, let's do this together, and maybe by the end of it, I'll learn your name." she winked, and began climbing

Seer

"That sounds nice!" the deer responded mirroring Snow's smile and falling into step with her. They began to mirror her actions, performing the tasks with a deftness that didn't seem to gel with their earlier trouble getting into their harness.

"I could tell you my name, but I don't think you'd be able to repeat it. Pony throats aren't quite geared to speaking Cervidish," they replied with a chuckle, "I guess you can call me... a seer. That feels apt. What brings you to the mountain, Snow?"

Snow Heart

"Oh? Well I would accept the challenge. I love challenging myself." she spoke back towards them. Even if she wasn't directly facing them, she could still hold a conservation while climbing. "Honestly? I wanted a vacation and climbing mountains has always been a favorite past time of mine. My sister doesn't really enjoy it, so I come out here to just enjoy myself. It's usually quiet, which I find serene. So tell me Seer, what got you into mlp?"

Seer

"It was something that I saw was very popular eight or so years back. I was studying at the time, and I found that it provided some much needed relief from stress. As time has gone on I have ended up drifting from it a touch. Honestly, as a programme I feel like it can be hit or miss," they called back. Snow heard the sound of their antlers flaring, and noticed an almost imperceptible purple shield had ensconced them both, shielding them from dust.
"However, one of my best friends has been watching it with me recently and now I'm a bit older I feel like I can appreciate the show again without needing to be too critical. It's a nice programme, but ultimately I'm far more interested in the writing community than the show."

Snow Heart

"Hmm...fascinating." Snow replied, while seeming to scree to herself with sheer joy in the simple freedom of no meetings, no fans, just a casual conservation with a total stranger. Who knew she might even make a friend. That was always nice. "Writing you say? Writing has always been quite addicting for me. It's like I've felt this connection to paper and ink for as long as I could lift a hoof to write, before realizing I could use my magic to write too." she chuckled at herself and memories of a younger Snow. "Tell me Seer, what inspires you to write?"

Seer

"You know, I'm legitimately not sure," they replied, and Snow could hear the surprise in their voice, as though they were just realising this themself.

"I could tell you what inspires my pieces of writing in isolation. But as far as the whole act goes? I don't know beyond the fact that it's always been an itch that needs scratching. My friend and I used to love coming up with stories when we were children, I guess a part of that never left me. And though my writing has ended up going into very different territory genre wise than those fantasy and adventure tales, the compulsion to create a narrative has remained. If anything, considering the way you can warp and influence tales by variance in writing style when you're actually writing your ideas out, the compulsion has only gotten stronger."

Snow Heart

"Hmm...I see. Very deep. You seem like a very intelligent deer. I wish I was that smart sometimes. Often ponies and creatures come to me for advice and sometimes I struggle what to tell them. Why are they looking to me for advice? I'm still learning, still growing, still TRYING to be the best Princess I can be. I questioned why I got these wings, but I'm doing all I can to be the best I can be, and there's never a time where I'm not learning something new with each and every day." explained Snow, getting a bit deep herself, without realizing it. "Oh my gosh. I'm rambling aren't I? Oh my...Um favorite pony?"

Seer

"You sound like someone doing their best, Snow," Seer called back, "I think we often forget that ultimately we all need time for ourselves, and to practice self-kindness. Lord knows I sometimes forget that myself."
There followed a moment of pleasant calm. The silence wasn't awkward, rather contended, gentle. Soft in contrast with hard work of pulling oneself slowly up the mountain.
"Oh, and my favorite pony is Rarity," the deer abruptly said with a laugh.

Snow Heart

"I try." she replied. A response that just came naturally to her. She tried. She was doing her best. She knew she wasn't perfect, even if some compared her to Rarity. She could never be so...amazing? Nor as pretty. She felt her cheeks blushing at her inner most thoughts. To think a pony would find her beautiful and worthy. She coughed. "Rarity's great, but Rainbow Dash is my favorite. Without her, I wouldn't be here now. I owe it all to her." she admitted with pride. She continued climbing, pondering her next question carefully. She wasn't sure how the deer would respond to such a personal question. Would they be offended or would they find it rather silly? "So...um Seer is there anything about the person behind the deer you'd like to tell me?"

Seer

"Interesting question. I guess the person behind the deer is a little tired at the moment. Not that this will be a permanent state of affairs, but regrettably its the case right now. I hope it comes to a close soon. But sometimes it's hard not to be exhausted, sometimes it's difficult to not want to withdraw slightly, to be hidden. But, as I said, it will pass. All things do, after all.

Snow Heart

"Well we're almost to the top. You'll be able to rest soon enough. Do tell me though, what advice would you give to a new pony or creature writing on the site for the first time?" she asked as she knew she only had a few more questions, and she could see the top of the mountain in the near future and then both of them would be able to rest. She was tired too. Just in a different way.

Seer

"I don't quite know if that's the exact sort of rest I need, but I do appreciate the thought," the deer laughed good-naturedly, "You're quite kind, I hope you know that. My advice to someone starting out is to just do their own thing. It doesn't really matter what my opinions on writing are. Just write what makes you happy, accept critique graciously when it's given graciously, and always be kind. There's nothing in the world more important than kindness. But insofar as writing? Just write whatever you like, it's pointless if you're not enjoying it."

Snow Heart

"Even if they want to write more...um mature things?" she chuckled, remembering how she started. Gosh...did anyone remember how bad it was? Nope! She erased it from all their minds. Why was she even remembering it? Every pony or creature had to start somewhere. And she had come far. But famous? No...she wasn't famous. "That's good advice and never be afraid to ask questions. I find that has helped me over the years. Always ask, and don't be afraid if your questions seem pointless. There are many varieties and many ways of learning you might not even realize! Now I just have a few more questions and I promise it'll be over. Well at least the climbing part. I would like to think maybe..." she paused shuddering. "Would you like to tell us about a story that has inspired you? It doesn't have to be mlp even."

Seer

"I've been inspired by countless stories really. Countless things all creating this odd, drifting style that I have. There's bits and pieces of too many things to count in there, as it with all of us who write things." Seer called back, speaking in that winding way of theirs.
"To be honest, I'd rather talk about the people who've inspired me. I never really used to interact with people here all that much until recently. So to everyone I've met over this last year, and particularly to Wish, Ruby, Dawn, Flash, Zontan, Red, Silent, Krazy and Moony, every one of you is someone I'm glad to have met, who've made me a better writer through the consumption of all your writing, the witness of your talent. And, more importantly than that, a happier person through knowing you. All of them have inspired me in different ways, and all of them are people I count myself lucky to know."

Snow Heart

"Awwwwh. That is very sweet. I could talk about books for days and days, but the most amazing person of all. He knows who he is. He has literally changed my life. I've never felt happier. I've always struggled with recovering from my past, but now it's like I'm a better Snow because of him. He completes me. And I hesitate so much, because I don't wanna mess up or do anything wrong. And I'm so nervous...but I think. I think I'm in love." she admitted bashfully, blushing darkly. She hurried to switch the topic. "Um...is there anything you'd like to ask me?"

Seer

They reached the top of the mountain, and Snow looked back and helped the deer climb the final ledge. The summit was glorious, the whole of the landscape opened up before them like an enormous oil painting. There was something tangible to it, as if by reaching out hooves it could be brushed.
"Sure," Seer replied, snapping Snow from her gazing out on the forests below, "What makes you happy? That's a good question, I think."

Snow Heart

"I could say headpats, and you'd believe it." she winked. Pausing before continuing. "Honestly? What makes me happy is very simple. Interaction. I don't really get out much. My father jokes I have the strongest fingers in the world, but the internet is where my friends are. The people, all of them. Every single of my 369 followers means so much to me. The speedwriting server has helped my writing immensely. I used to wonder what it meant to be happy. To be normal. But I think really at the base of it all, what makes me happy is being able to wake up and knowing I get to spend another day interacting with such amazing ponies and creatures. And knowing I'm the luckiest mare in the world, because he chose me out of all the mares out there. The stallion of my dreams, chose me. I know it's sappy, but it's the truth. And my Applejack is showing. Now let me help you get that harness off. Is there anything else you'd like to say?"

Seer

"I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to talk with my today," the deer replied, giving Snow an weary, yet earnest, smile, "It was a lot of fun on a day where I definitely needed it. And thank you for the help with the harness!"

Once Snow had removed straps from the deer's small, white frame, they shook their hindquarters with a relieved laugh.
"I'll tell you what, removing that thing is almost as satisfying at reaching the top. Thank you once more, and thank you to everyone who I've gotten to know this last year, you all know who you are!"
After a couple of moments of the two of them looking out onto the landscape, Snow heard Seer bid her a kind farewell. But, before she could turn around to look, she heard the telltale sound of the deer's magic. And then, in a royal purple flash, they vanished from sight altogether.
