Apropos of the Sinners – Update 10

Part 5 is complete and fully published. At last.

I must make a disappointing confession, however. In hindsight I'm not too satisfied with how part 5 turned out. I don't know if this is due to its drastic departure in pacing, tone, and general structure when compared to previous parts, or because I got rusty after this long unofficial hiatus, but I'm just not that content with it. If I had to put my finger on something, I'd say it's that this last arc feels very scattered and disorganized, with things seemingly happening at random, and some of the dialogue came off as pretty heavyhanded.

I don't think it's all bad. I think the first two and last two chapters were pretty alright, it's just the middle portion that I wish I had done differently. I guess this train arc looked better in my head.

But to end on a positive note, I'm currently in the process of revising part 6, and so far I really like what I've come up with. It's a good continuation to this ever-evolving plot, which springboards from earlier established moments of foreshadowing. I have no idea when part 6 will be ready for publication—hopefully sooner rather than later. For now we can only wait.
