    Awaken

It's been a while, but - while I'm not likely to write anything new, sorry! - I'm at a place now where I feel comfortable logging back in and reading (and sometimes commenting!) again. I know this didn't really merit an announcement, but I've seen a few DMs and comments since the last time I was here, and I just wanted to reassure people that if you want to message me or leave comments, they will

I won't be deleting the account, because it's been pointed out to me before that some people somehow found something they liked in my stories and it's not really fair of me to take it away, but I'm done with Fimfiction. Thanks for having me. Bye.

In which I apologise for being a year behind schedule and note a remarkable coincidence

So, the five of you who are still following me will note it's been a while since I published a story, and even longer since I teased my big upcoming project - nearly a year since that blog, in fact! I'm so sorry.

New story: a tale of Derpy · 10:54am Jul 6th, 2020

Derpy drowns her sorrows after getting some bad career news... but when one door closes, another opens.

So, I woke up in the middle of the night, and (as is so often the case) I felt like I wanted to write something. At first, I started to chip away at the perpetually-nearly finished Âme Caline, a.k.a. StarTrix CuddleFest 2020, but it wasn't quite happening, and I realised I wanted to do something completely new, out of nowhere, from scratch there and then - like with Dragon Lord Ember Skips Work for an Hour, just grab a concept and run with it, and hit publish before I talked myself out of it.

I saw one of my friends wrote a blog about tarot cards, and so I thought, huh, they're full of interesting imagery, why not use one of those? (Not that I believe in tarot, mind you.) Anyway, I drew one at random, which turned out to be the seven of cups, which apparently shows "mysterious symbols on a cloud, representing opportunities, self-delusion and wishful thinking." I instantly thought of Derpy, and how/why she ever got hired as a mailpony, and what the deal was with her flashback scenes (soapbox derby racing in Ponyville, winning the flying race in Cloudsdale and then descending the podium as her eyes get increasingly messed up, seeing her in Ponyville hospital with eye bandages), and it all just popped into my head in one go. I'm sure this idea has probably been done a million times by now (the perils of joining the fandom late), but, well, here it is.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! I know I'm typecast as a writer of talky slice of life things; well, this is among the talkiest and, um, sliciest yet, but - as ever - it was fun to write, and I hope it'll also be fun to read.

Anyhow, in case anyone was wondering why I called it Seven of Cups, there's your answer. Keeping up my tradition of giving things confusing titles. :derpytongue2:

Ah, the title makes sense now.

I did wonder, yes; thanks for the additional information. :D
