    an update

Hi all. I hope everyone is doing well. I've been taking an extended break from FimFiction lately. Had some undesirable interactions with some users. That coupled with some of my creative frustrations just makes logging on... kind of unpleasant? If I do log on, it's usually to try and catch up with the fics I'm reading and then I quickly log off. I'm just feeling drained with the MLP fanfic

It was my birthday yesterday! I'd meant to post the day of, but honestly, I was so tired and busy I just didn't have much time or energy to sit at my computer. Wanna hear a funny story or two, plus see the new playlist I made for Sassaflash? Get it after the jump!

    ponies fix everything

New chapter for What They Hope to Find is out! I talk about what's next after the jump, but before that, a quick anecdote:

Last night, my family was having trouble finding something to watch together. My nine-year-old son didn't have any ideas, but he pretty much shot down every suggestion we had. Eventually, out of frustration and half-serious, I say, "Let's just watch ponies."

    Jinglemas! And Rarijack!

I'm participating in this year's Jinglemas! It's a cute fic exchange that happens every year. I requested a rare pair ship, three guesses which. :twilightsheepish: Today is the last day to join, so if you want in on it, be sure to read over the rules and PM Shakespearicles!

I recorded new songs (also writing and life updates) · 1:41pm Dec 22nd, 2019

Two re-recordings of stuff I've already shared, and two new pony/EqG songs I haven't done before.

Updates for new fics, What They Expect to Give, Eerie Lantern and just what the future holds on my writing schedule in general.

Get it all after the jump.

First, songs.

I got a new amp that lets me record my ukulele directly into Audacity. My audio skills are atrocious, but the tracks sound clear without the extra noise. I made a thing on Soundcloud that puts it all together. (If you want lyrics or tabs, just let me know.)

"Chase the Rain" was that Flutterdash song (sung from Flutters perspective) I shared a while ago in that awful phone recording. This recording is much clearer. You can actually hear the lyrics now!

"Cut Like Diamonds" got re-recorded without any vocal layering this time. (Honestly, that last attempt was sloppy.)

"Eerie Mind" is the one I'm most proud of. This is new, and (if you hadn't guessed) my OC's theme: Eerie Lantern. I think the vocals are more or less the best I can do, and the free sounds I added were super fun. (Credits are in the song data. I was a dork and closed the pages before saving them to a doc.) Tinkered some with Audacity's effects to make my voice all spooky at certain parts. I'm just really happy with this one.

I am... a little less satisfied with "To Hope", which isn't to say that I dislike the melody or anything, but I literally spent hours on this and I just couldn't get the audio to where I wanted it. Plus I messed up one of the notes towards the end, which was irritating, but I just said fuck it and kept playing. (I did try to record new uke audio, but after another hour of failing, I was ready to break my instrument.) I experimented with vocal layering here too, but I keep waffling on whether it was effective. And UGH, I really tortured myself with the chorus melody-- I am awful at playing b flat! I really am tempted to say my phone recording of this song is actually better:

Click here if you want to hear that version. It's on Google Drive, though. EDIT: Should note that the chorus melody is different in this one than the SoundCloud one. Also, that thing in the background was my heater.

"To Hope" is integral to WTEtG, and I had wanted to hear it sung for years. After unsuccessfully trying to find a musician to commission to sing it, I just went and did it myself. Just like "Cut Like Diamonds" I imagined it to be more of a rock ballad, but meh... I have a uke and I'm no expert, so I did what I did.

Sorry, I've been awake for 24 hours and I kind of just... don't care right now. Spellcheck is having a field day.

Despite my frustrations, the music work really helped me to stay awake through the night.

I mentioned it in a deleted blog post, but I'm going to be starting full-time night shift soon. Tonight was the first time I managed to stay up to see the sunrise.

This matters to you guys because it will slow my writing down by a lot. Fortunately, I have a little winter break before I officially start, so I've been feverishly getting whatever writing done that I can (with the exception of tonight). That shot several stories leaps and bounds forward in terms of completion progress.

What They Expect to Give will likely have an update sometime in late January. (That's my cautious estimate.) In my attempts to shift my sleep schedule I just sort of went nuts and wrote a bunch for it. I'm pretty stoked. We're hitting new milestones I'd been dreaming of reaching since I started the fic three years ago!

Eerie Lantern could update in January. It's pretty far along, but I wanna say just a little over halfway. In case of snags, then I'd say an update is more likely sometime in February.

All The Little Rings (in case you actually read my blog fic before I deleted it) is nearly complete and more than halfway edited. I'm hoping to have it out by February or March.

The (as of yet) unnamed sequel to hearts, deep in their hiding places has been started. My pipe dream was to have anywhere between 3-5 chapters completed before I even trotted it out, but I'd really like to post it alongside WTEtG updates as closely as I can-- less for you guys, and more to spare my poor brain the effort of remembering what the hell is going on. I really must be a masochist, trying to do simultaneous stories like this, but I REALLY WANT to do this story for AJ. I've tormented her enough.

I hope everyone is doing well. December has always been a hard month for me, and this one was no different. Money's still tight. I'm missing my side of the family and some of my old friends. But! I'm looking forward to a chance to rest and spend time with family this week!

Be safe everyone. Happy holidays and have a happy new year.

Mild drama! But nothing major. A rather lazy day really, with lots of late night board gaming. Overall I had fun.

How was yours?

Food, going to a friend’s house for a party, more food,

Nice for me as well
