Holy CRAP, Apple. · 3:54am Dec 15th, 2019
So, my dad got a notification this morning on his iPhone 7 Plus to update to iOS 13. He decided to go ahead and update, naturally. Neither of us saw any harm in a simple software upgrade, after all.
It is now 8:52 PM, his iPhone is bricked by a botched update, I've installed multiple additional data rescue products on my PC, and I've got iTunes pulled up on both my main PC and a macbook pro that was dumped on me while I try to get his phone back in working order without having to factory reset the thing.
Holy crap. I've never come across this problem with any device until now.
UPDATE: I think the iPhone somehow killed the macbook pro. It was working just fine and was plugged in, and almost immediately after the iPhone entered a bootloop again the macbook suddenly shut itself off. It's not even able to charge anymore. :/
This is why I'm cautious regarding any updates.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dunno what to say about that
Planned obsolescence at its fiinest
That sucks. Maybe it's for the best that I wasn't able to update the iPad I have on a shelf somewhere a few versions back. It was just old enough that it didn't meet minimum system requirements. (For iOS 12, I think?)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
iOS 13 is the most recent version.

Yeah, so I stopped being able to update that iPad at least a version ago, if not more...

That's Apple for you.
I don't have a iPhone but I do have an iPad. Never had anything crash on it except YouTube
Techie? You should have watched Louis Rossmann's channel on Youtube.
He encounters dumb stuff Apple has done all the time.
TBH I mostly watch this for his "Apple!!! Y U do this???!!!" rants!

I do watch his vids. Just didn't think I'd end up encountering a repair job myself.
I got an update and I don't think I have any issues with it
