Smolder exhaled. Whether the smoke that followed came from biology or the dragon's refusal to contain the cigarette's erosion Ocellus couldn't tell. It blossomed, though, a smudge of grey against the bruised sky, and that was enough. But in that moment Ocellus was certain that whatever Smolder did would have been enough.

S'up. Been a while, hasn't it? But yeah, I've been writing some horsegriffonwords here and there. It's very rough, and I'm not sure if it'll go anywhere or see the light of day, but here's a small part of it that I liked and thought I'd share.

    Wrote Something Last Week

Not a story as such (or, at least, not anything approaching a complete story), but the foundation of something that could conceivably become a story with some time and effort.

    Saw the G5 Movie Today.

As is probably apparent by my lateness to the proceedings, I haven't really been motivated to catch it thus far, but was babysitting and my charge wanted to watch it.

    Time Flies

Smolder lay sprawled across the rug, limbs and claws entwined in dense yak hair. Her scales had become uneven shimmering planes, given their fleeting new life by the light of the fireplace. There, prancing tongues lived and died erratically, the only concession to the passing of time.

"Hey, you see the moon from there?"

Writing Schedules and Signposting Contests/Collabs. · 10:36pm Nov 23rd, 2019

Ember stared at the piece of parchment in her hands.

"This is stupid," she said, puffing coils of smoke from her nostrils. Lying beside her, Twilight giggled into the piece of the duvet she had pressed against her muzzle.

"Only if we're playing antonyms," she replied, her voice dripping with delight.

"Well we're not," snapped Ember, folding her arms. "So it is."

Twilight's face melted into a mock pout, though her eyes burned with a challenge. "You never play my games."

Ember waved the parchment under her muzzle. "This is one of your games. At least, it had better be."

"No. That was a forfeit." Twilight smiled a toothy smile. "You lost the arm-foreleg wrestle, you organise today's activities."

Ember held her gaze for a minute, drinking in Twilight's smug features and the triumphant sheen of her eyes. Then she grinned.

"Here you go then," she said, shoving the parchment into Twilight's face. The pony spluttered for a minute as she pulled it away, before shooting Ember a dirty look. Then she started to read through the list.

Then her face started to turn red.

Ember raised an eyebrow. "Problem?"

"N—No." Twilight's eyes were wide, her cheeks looking like tiny pools of magma. "N—No problem with me. Definitely no problem with me." She bit her lip, the morning sunlight dancing across her teeth. "So, uh...Do I—?"

She shook her head, and then reached a hoof out towards Ember's ventral scales. Surprise contorted her features as Ember shuffled out of reach.

"Wh—What?" Twilight shrank back. "Is something wrong?"

"Nothing at all." Ember beamed at her. "We're playing antonyms aren't we? Because you're right, I never play your games."

She roared with laughter as the pillow hit her face.

What a tease you are, Ember. And, uh, sorry about that. I just had an urge to get a couple of hundred words out of my system.

Hello, folks. The word of the day is "Organising." I've mostly been organising the house ready for Christmas to take over from next weekend. But I've also been organising my writing activities here over the coming month. On a Saturday night! Go me! :twilightblush: As it sort of ties in with a few contests and collabs I'm participating in, I thought I'd at least do some signal boosting for those too.

A while back I took on a free commission as a dry-run to possibly opening commission slots up (mainly elsewhere, but maybe here too), and until the end of the month that will be my priority. I've got the synopsis and a very rough draft sorted, and I'll be working on that a lot next week. It'll be a coming-of-age story for the most part, with some fantastical (yes, I know that's a little less grand and exciting given that Equestria is hardly a mundane world) elements. It'll be inspired a lot by the works of Ghibli, and a little by the folklore of the stage. Oh, and it will feature Sweetie Belle and Coco Pommel. Yes, that's right, another story without Smolder. :trollestia:

I'll be working on it until the end of the month, because come December my time will be prioritising the Jinglemas group event!

If you aren't already aware of it, Jinglemas is a horsewords equivalent of a secret santa; participants request a fic featuring up to two characters, and in turn are committed to writing one for someone else. It's a very well-intentioned collab, and from previous experience I know it to be fun taking part. So I'll be writing at least one fic for that, and probably more, as I'll be taking on the requests of those who drop out or who are otherwise unable to complete their story. You can still sign up for the next week or so, so why not check it out and see if it is something you'd like to participate in. There's also an M-Rated version run by the same team, which I'll also be participating in because being pushed out of your boundaries every now and then can be a good thing. It won't change my policy in only publishing E/T stories from this account, however.

The other event I regularly participate in is the monthly Flash 150 contest run by the Flashfic group.

One contest per month, entries limited to 150 words, winner chooses the next prompt. It's good simple fun. We've just concluded November's round, so be on the look out for the next one soon!

So that's about it, really. Quite a few fics for me to be working on, but the only one I'll be publishing on my account here will be the commissioned Sweetie Belle/Coco Pommel story, probably by early January at the latest. You'll have to catch the others when the Collab stories are published towards the end of December.

See you next time, folks. Don't be strangers!
