    The heraldry of Ravenclaw

Once upon a time Heraldry had been a hobby of mine.

OK, so this bit of rambling was inspired by speculation about the Ravenclaw heraldic blazon. Originally the shield was described as a bronze eagle on a blue field.

Blue and gold? Or is it blue and brown? Not to mention considerable division as to if it's an eagle or a raven.

    What did I write?

OK, so I'm reading through an abandoned story when I find this:

“Do you know how to use a toilet?”

“Ah, you sit, do yer business, and then pull the leaver.”

    “Which one?”

“Which one?” Cirrus had never heard of a toilet with more than one lever on it. Looking at what she presumed to be the toilet found that it looked a bit like a captains chair with multiple buttons.

    What links the Deathly Hallows.

OK, so I was watching a video on fan theories and thought I'd share one of my comments here. One theory is that Harry's Invisibility Cloak was a piece of the Veil... which really makes no sense to my way of thinking. They were also speculating on the connection between the three hallows.

Still working on Ponies in Hogwarts. · 7:45pm Oct 31st, 2019

I needed to go back and reread everything to remind myself of that which I've already done. Not dead yet, and there are chapters waiting to be published.

Let's face it, there's a lot of material to go over. And re-reading means more editing. I can't seem to go back over things without finding something that needs fixing.

And editing is both monumentally boring and infuriatingly frustrating. Even with people calling out mistakes there are still mistakes to be found. In a way that can even be worse as in I thought I fixed that?! :twilightoops: Seriously, I can't write new material if all I'm doing is going over the same material looking for that mistake I missed. And if that isn't frustrating enough, having people call out things that aren't mistakes... yes, that's the reason I took a super long break. Well, that and my carpal tunnel was acting up. I can only imagine that the people who kept calling out philanderer's stone must surely have been scanning instead of actually reading. It's a Rule 34 reference. Just like the reference to the free love movement, which I was called out on, it is a joke. A throwaway line that at the very least should elicit an eye roll. There is some intentional stuff in the text as well that I knew the Hermiones out there would have issues with. If it looks like it might be intentional, it just might be.

I got called out for the phrase fail-safe. And down-voted for my explanation as to why I chose to use wyrm instead of basilisk. My story, my interpretation. Please try to refrain from doing this sort of thing. Not just to me, but to all the other writers.

Does it need to be called out? OK, I'll admit I've called out a few mistakes myself, but do try to refrain myself unless I feel it's really causing an issue. One such issue I called out was the misuse of the Japanese word Tenko. 天狐 "heavenly fox"/"celestial fox" or pronounced as "tengu" which is a crow-like character, or Tenkō (転向, literally, changing direction) Which is a reference to forced change in a person's ideological thinking and/or forced conversion therapy. And then Google will come back with the word "call". Misuse of a word from another language no matter how well-intentioned is every bit as bad if not worse then using the wrong word. Celestia knows I've been called out for plenty of wrong words. If you ever catch me doing something that could have some heinous implications tell me, by all means, tell me. Just be sure it's not another fail-safe or basilisk verses Wyrm argument. And don't tell me that only Pinkie is allowed to break the forth wall. It's not funny if it's expected. A potential issue is that I'm trying to be LGBT... inclusive while at the same time I'm not going to try to stick to whatever the presently accepted terminologies are. Professor Snape becomes a woman, I've every intention of keeping them that way and Draco Malfoy can switch back and forth at will. It starts out as a comic device but then becomes serious. At least one person doesn't like the idea of winged ponies laying eggs. The idea that Princess Celestia might be laying eggs like a common chicken is supposed to be patently absurd. She's probably got egg flats in cryogenic storage somewhere so she can repopulate the world of ponies should the unthinkable ever happen.

I've been using the built-in reader and found that it is helpful in identifying wrong words. It's not perfect. When it kept pronouncing dove as in the bird instead of the past tense of dive I was beginning to think I had yet another wrong word. So I looked it up. Apparently it's an American thing and while technically wrong, it's so widely used it's now considered a permissible variation. Go figure. I use British notation for Mr and Mrs as in no full stop, and use words that are strictly American in usage. I'm just all over that gap, aren't I? The reason I don't use the full stop on these kinds of abbreviations is that my word processor has a tendency to see them as the end of the sentence. :facehoof:

I put a lot of time into this, and no matter how much time I put in, there will always be something I missed. When I'm typing the only thing I'm thinking about is the story. I can't think about anything else at this point or the process stops. Is that the right word I want, is there a better way to say something? There comes a point where my frustration just gets to me.

I write for my enjoyment first and choose to share with those of you who will get enjoyment or inspiration from my efforts. And I'm glad you like it. That's why I share it.

Thank you.

In the process of going back through the book, I discovered a fun little throwaway line back where Nova met Newt Scamander. I'd tied this story to the MCU right there. I wonder how many people missed it? Bowtruckles are baby Groots. XD
