Cats (2019) Trailer Review · 10:52pm Sep 1st, 2019

Well, People. Looks like we've got a live on.

Likely not the best review to make my 8th trailer review of, but hey...might as well.

First things first, everyone take a look at this trailer for yourselves:

Now, to get my thoughts on this trailer over with:

Honestly, this trailer seemed to promote a film that looks to be hideous every step of the way.

I mean, I've heard that a film based on the "Cats" musical play was going to be coming, and that it was apparently in the planning stages for some time. It was particularly in the plans of Steven Spielberg, but was often being held off. But, I honestly think that after all these years, all they seem to have come up with is a sinking stinker.

The music was certainly catchy to the ear in some way, but the character designs...they appear to be too much like people wearing cheesy cat suits. I can't help but even think that despite having a talented cast on board, especially some big name stars like Idris Elba, James Corden, and Ian McKellen, their talents just seem to be overcome by the cheesiness of their character designs.

Honestly, I would've really preferred that photorealistic imagery had been used with the characters, to make them look like real cats. Just like in "The Jungle Book (2016)". Instead, though, we get what's shown here.

So, do I think that this film is something that's worth everyone's while?

No. No I do not.

But, that's not really the only reason for why I'd be making this post.

To Universal Pictures: Guys, if you really want this movie to be something everybody can love and cherish, the biggest recommendation that I would give is to hold back from releasing this movie in theaters.

The reason I'm saying this is because I highly recommend that the character designs be changed from looking like people in suits, to looking like actual cats. It would help things seem more appealing, that's for sure.

What do you guys think?

I hadn’t known anything about this other than the fact that Taylor Swift was in it, but I hadn’t really looked into it. So, since I seem to like everything, I figured this would probably be pretty good... but now I watched the trailer, and yeah, I agree completely. This needs to be changed significantly if it’s going to work at all. Although it definitely has potential with some changes, especially since Ian McKellan is in it (which I didn’t know before).

I'm just thinking about the old and wizened Sir Ian McKellan getting into hot, stuffy cat makeup every day of filming to make a movie that looks like this, and my day is ruined.

I'm still going to see it regardless of how people are overreacting it from the trailer. Because you know the old saying: "never judge a book by it's cover." Because it might turn out to be very good and defy all of the fears of those who disliked it.

I've heard that this movie would look better as an animated movie. I think I agree.

Thanks a lot, Undercover. I'd just managed to forget this existed, and then you come along and remind me that this horrible, terrible thing is indeed a part of humanity's cinematic output.

Thank you very much. :ajbemused:

Just kidding, it's all cool.

But this still looks terrible.

But what if said cover depicts something vile and disgusting that should never be laid before human eyes?

No author in his or her right mind would put such a description on the cover.

Besides, do your remember another film released this year entitled Alita: Battle Angel? Well some people were indeed freaked out by the graphics used in bringing Alita herself to life in the film when the trailer was released. But once the film came out and several people saw it, many changed their minds and loved it.

The same goes with the Detective Pikachu film because several who watched the trailers commented on YouTube about being creeped out with the graphics of the Pokemon featured in the film. But once the film came out those concerns were drowned out by its major success.

It should be noted, though, that both of those films already had pretty big fanbases behind them to show support. Cats, from what I understand, does not.

I'm neither fan of anime or Pokemon, so I really wouldn't know, to be honest.
