And now my house needs $80,000 in foundation repair and bedrock stabilization.

Yikes! What happened?
Good grief!
What happened to your foundation?!

We're not totally sure yet, but it seems like we must have a leaking water or sewer pipe on one corner of the house. The house has sunk 3 inches on that side, and about an inch all the way around. Some of that is normal settling, but half an inch is considered normal. Anything more than that needs to be stabilized. We have an engineer coming in on Monday to double check the situation and see what can be done for something less than a small fortune. If we just do the one corner, that might only be $40,000, but we would still need to do the rest at some point.
Good times.
5110857 Ouch.
Well, good luck and I hope it all comes down to the BEST case scenario for you and yours.

Thanks. I appreciate it. It's certainly discouraging, but such is life. My wife and I will get through it.

Eek. Sorry to hear that...

Yup. I warn everyone that I know that is about to buy a house for the first time that it's not at all the wonderland that it seems to be. Owning a house is better than renting in a lot of ways, but I don't think it's saved us any money. It's nice to build equity, though, or it would be if I didn't have to pour so much damn money into it for repairs all the time!
wow @_@ fuck

Yup. It's super lame, but what can you do? We just have to apply a stiff upper lip and all that, wot wot.

I had been thinking some months ago about shelling out to go to that last Bronycon, but I'm very happy that I didn't spend a large-ish chunk of change to do so now.
Burn it down, start over. it is the only way.

I'd honestly love to dynamite this place. Hate this house and this neighborhood.
