Interview with Wingman

by Nailah

“Alright, now tell me my dear friend, what inspired your username?

Wingman's response: It was on two or three factors, it was on my love for aircraft, and space based games. Ironically, I’m deathly afraid of heights. When it came to Fimfiction, I chose something that came to the top of my head. Which was “Wingman” remembering my fascination with aircraft and that’s how it came to be.

“What drew you into Mlp?

Wingman's response: Well, back when I was in high school, some of my friends were into mlp. Back then I was neutral on it. One day I was waiting for my grandfather to get me from college one day. I switched on my phone and watched the first episode, and ever since then it’s been history. How all the characters were interesting and relatable.

“Who is your favorite pony and why?

Wingman's response: My favorite character has to be...Discord. He reminds me of my sense of humor and being spontaneous. Plus being voice by John De Lancie drew me in, because I remembered watching Star Trek the next generation. Remembering that Q was a trickster guy, made me wonder if they were voiced by the same guy.

“Favorite episode and why?”

Wingman's response: If I had to pick just one...it would be Twilight’s Kingdom because of the stakes put forth in the episode. Tirek stealing all the magic, and how the fate of Equestria was basically placed upon Twilight’s shoulders. It was only because of her and her friends that she was able to defeat Tirek and save the world and a nice setup for Twilight being given reign over Equestria.

“What inspires you to write?”

Wingman's response: If I had to guess, maybe I’d spend an hour or two, brainstorming ideas, thinking of them in my head. I tend to write from the heart. Also, when it comes to emotional parts, the loss of a family member, I try to draw on my own experiences. “Outward Feelings” was written when I was struggling to come to terms with my sexuality. Sometimes, when writing action, dare I say it “cloppy” I tend to get creative and think about which ideas stick and would work. But at the end of the day I just enjoy writing and letting it flow.

“Tell us about your favorite story, and why it inspires you to write. It doesn't have to be mlp specifically!”

Wingman's response: My favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert. Because I like how it contrasts with how typically in a story set in the 10,000’s is set in a futuristic vibe. But there’s no robots and still keeps it interesting with its lore and characters and a plot within a plot within a plot. Even won a Nebula award, and has really inspired me to write.

“Give us the background of the author! Tell us all about you. Well in a short summary.

Wingman's response: Well, I’m some guy with fascination with computers, living in Michigan. The weather is always screwy here. I’m somewhat of a shy introvert. When I meet others, I do my best to be social with them.

“With Mlp coming to an end, tell us one thing you have learned from your experiences, and how it has helped you to grow?

Wingman's response: Well, it helped me learn the values of friendship, empathy and good will onto others. It also introduced me to a good group of friends. I’ve only ever had a handful of friends, and mlp has made me value friendship above all else. And even with mlp coming to an end, friendship will always be there in some shape or form.

“Is there anything else you'd like to say?

Wingman's response: For struggling authors, take your time and don’t rush things. Good things come with time. Also, never be afraid to write what you love and experiment.

Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of interviewing you, you have truly been a pleasure to talk too. I hope you continue being awesome.
