Okay, me indulging in random thoughts for a good while here, so if that's not your forte you can freely skip this one.
Now, first off, I do have to laugh a little here. People are people, and they can be that. But something really catches my eye here. It's like people love to harp on an episode when a character is anything less than perfect. Because god forbid they have flaws!
Yes, I'm salty tonight. So who cares?
You know, looking at the comment section of today's episode, when it wasn't being... you know, a comment section in all it's toxicity someone pointed something out and this totally is actually quite impressive when you think about it long enough. I know there are quite a few people harping on Rainbow for being so disinterested in cheer squad, not that I can blame her in some ways. But remember, what are her parents like?
Oh yes, they cheered her right and left for every little thing. Bleagh. And we all saw how sick of that Rainbow was after a time. Can you blame cheering leaving a bad taste in her mouth? Granted, she could have been more tactful about this, but still. Also, why didn't she just... walk out and explain to Twilight that she wasn't the mare for the job here? Well, Rainbow, as we know, is very prideful. This was a matter of pride for her I suspect on some subconscious level.
Now, I do love the episode's moral. Some times in life you do have to do crap you do hate. We know this, that's pretty much called life, isn't it? Goodness knows I've had to learn things I could care less about, like say... math in order to get through life. Hell, I think my dad has known this, with me and some of my hobbies. He at the very least tries to learn about them to be able to talk to me about them.
And the thing about her being so dismissive? (Because let's face it, she was.) Rainbow has shown in the past to be dismissive about stuff she doesn't particularly care for. I mean, reading for one. It took her being shoved up in a hospital to care about that.
Also, Snails was totally cool here. I mean, seems to me when he actually wants to focus on something he can block out all other stuff in the room and do what he sets his mind to. Be the Ball, anyone?
So... Yeah. Don't know how much you cared for my thoughts at any rate, but...
Personally when I heard about this plot point my question was, Twilight why would you choose Rainbow Dash without talking to her about it? She knows her friend is a hard competitor and does she have any stake in being a good mentor? When she was helping do the Equestria Games flag event she was there doing it for Scootaloo. Just the writers needing a plot covered and they went with the easiest path.
Even though the reviews on this episode is...mixed, I think to bring up some good counter points. Even still, I'm still thoroughly enjoying season 9 so far. The last episode with Pinkie was pretty good imo.
(Also, I feel the need to point out that you now have 666 Blog posts. I just find that an enjoyable coincidence. )
Haven't seen the episode yet, but this sounds like a good rebuttal of some of the criticisms.
By the way, I have some thoughts on the Amalgam'verse forum that I'd kinda like your opinion on.

Okay, the not talking to her about it is something I can take grievance with, although it was clear she was trying to be like her mentor and be subtle about teaching the lesson. But Rainbow Dash being the perfect choice? Yes, and possibly the only choice. Applejack? Would probably care even less and just want to get it done. Rarity would be too focused on the costumes. Fluttershy... Yeah, that wouldn't work.

Yeah, that's my issue with this episode. It's a forced plot point because the writers are out of ideas. Just goes to show what I've been saying for a while: this show needs to end just so it can bow out gracefully instead of dragging on and becoming a limp corpse.

Spooky. Also, so much yes on Pinkie's episode. So glad to see Weird Al back.
One of the few Pinkie episodes I absolutely adore. I'm sorry, but Pinkie is just too... hyper for my tastes and her sense of comedy is just too random half the time.

To be fair with the School of Friendship in general, I think this whole idea was sorta shoved on the writers for toy sales or something. It does have it's moments, as the Student Six are adorable and great characters -Yona redeemed the yaks for starters- but you can really tell it wasn't in the writer's plans at times.

That can happen with a show which has nine seasons. Even if it had, for example, one season less, it could also happen.
And that's one of the reasons for Season 9 to be the last one.
(Which doesn't happen with The Simpsons, by the way.)

Goodness knows it happened plenty of times with Supernatural... I mean, all of season 7 with... Oh god, I cannot even remember their names but the monsters could be defeated with cleaning product. That was just dumb. And God being the main villain of the show for the final season? What the fuck.
...And now I'm ranting.
...Um, yeah... that's fairly debatable really.
The episode was meh for me, but that's probably because it was too predictable. It seems that people just don't like having an episode focusing on the character's flaws (their most worst flaws too) and being reminded that the character is not perfect. I know for a fact that no matter how good the finale is going to be, there is always gonna be some people who hate or despise it. I wish the writers could miraculously make the episode so awesome that everyone loves it, but unfortunately opinions exist. I was trying to see how many people called Rainbow or Twilight a jerk or some other colorful word in comment section, and I wasn't let down.

Well, that's what happens basically when you get people in this fanbase falling in love with characters and proclaiming them as their waifus. Go cry me a river. ...Oh, I am salty tonight.
That's a MLP Episode Comment section for you here on FIMfic, they're usually pretty toxic unless you have a certain type of sense of humor and a bucket of popcorn on hand.
5104223
Really? God? Huh, that's curious.
Not exactly sure what you mean with that.
5104229
Ever heard the term Asspull, that's what the final season can be summed up as.
The Simpsons' has been dying on its feet for ages, the last really good episode I remember was the Lego episode.

Oh, ok then.
Well, it has thirty seasons, although I like every episode, so I must be some kind of alien or something.
In fact, I watch it mostly for two reasons:
1. Cause Homer is my favourite.
2. To see if it ever gets a finale.

Trouble is, there was only the one 'School' Playset issued, with Twilight and a bunch of tiny pieces. Hasbro's done little to no merchandising since the movie, and none of it has been School of Friendship related. We have no griffon, changeling, yak, dragon, or hippogriff toys. Nada. So whatever it was, it wasn't meant to sell stuff.
Bricklayer, I hope you got some of that popcorn left because you should take a look at the episode's comment section presently. Like holy heck, it's like someone went and poured a bunch of oil onto the already flaming fire. You either join the war or sit back and watch it burn. Or, carry on life and not waste your time reading some butthurt comments about some butthurt people.
5104214
I like Pinkie's randomness, but only in small doses.
5104314
That sorta figures really. I mean, every time a comment section on an episode starts up, it's bound to turn into an oilwell fire or a steaming pile of shit because holy hell do people always want to be right and nobody else is allowed their opinion. Like, seriously, every damn time. And now that I think about it, well it's generally the same people who are always bitching about one thing or another.
It's just a show people, not your entire life. Goodness gracious, do I understand why this fandom has such a bad reputation for obnoxiousness.
