How powerful is MLP FIM magic compared to others? (Canon MLP FIM, not yours or my crazy fan fictions.) Shows, universes, games etc.
Is their magic; weak, strong, or average?
A prime example of powerful magic users.
D&D: Balder's Gate: Jon Irenicus, Amelyssan, Belhifet, Edwin Odesseiron, Demogorgon, Bhaal (The Lord of Murder) and Gorion's Ward (Balder's Gate's Protagonist) as a mage.
I'd say about average.
Highest level magic you see in MLP is throwing giant laser beams around. Whereas, in something like D&D you get people who can warp reality to suit their needs.

Don't forget Discord. He's a CASUAL Reality Warper. His magic usage leads me to classify him as a GOD TIER Menace.

There's the quantity of low rank magic users in FiM to consider, too. Not just the big hitters like Discord, Celestia, and so on.
In most of D&D the average Joe is a medieval-ish farmer without a shred of magic to their name. Heck, depending on setting, they might not even know how to read and write on average. And they're massively lucky if their entire village has one or two low-level magic users.
In FiM on the other hand, the average citizen is a magical creature. Sure, they might only know a few 'cantrips,' but society wide that's still a lot of power. I mean, hell, there's at least one cloud city in the setting, and it's treated about as fantastically as we see New York, London, or any other large & impressive city.
So, personally, I'd honestly call FIM a high magic setting. It's just one that's not very focused on the 'fireballs & thunderbolt' side of things, but the slice-of-life angle.

What would someone like Belhifet be dangerous in the MLP FIM universe?
Depends on the race but overall its average and the only ones that can be powerful is Discord, Celestia, Luna, and maybe Twilight if she got everyone magic

but you also have to consider, how his magic works. based on how much tirek grew, it doesnt seem, like his magic is inherently strong, you also have to know how to use it.
Discord is very proud of his intellect.
And from the Season 6 finale, we also know, that he cant violate the law of equivalent Exchange. When he made the flying pig, he didnt create matter out of Nothing, it was more like holodeck constructs, or the gems bodies from Steven universe. and if Discord cant violate that rule, nopony in his universe can.
Discord seems to be powerful, cause he has greater understanding on how the universe works. If he were to Play pokemon, hed be the guy who defeats a lv 100 arceus with a lv 1 rattata, just because he can.
But he would still be able to beat bill cipher.

yup, and there are Things like the power ponies Comic. They created a holodeck-like Setting inside a pocket Dimension, for fun.
They also use saddle bags with enchantments on them, that prevents Food to go bad (confirmed in Season 8 finale), and are bigger on the inside (probably). Also fireplaces inside trees might indicate fireproofing magic.
Ive made a Tier System for magic users in mlp. Higher Tiers Always win against lower Tiers (krillin can never beat goku), but between characters of the same Tier, the fight can go either way, even if one usually wins at the end (for example Piccolo vs 17, 17 would have won due to his Stamina, but Piccolo was able to hold his own, for an Extended period of time, so they were on the same Tier)
LV1: regular unicorns like rarity
LV2: studious unicorns like moondancer (probably, we never seen one of those do anything Special)
LV3: high Level unicorns: Starlight(with high emotions) and Twilight, Chrysalis(regular), Shining armor
LV4: highest Level unicorns: S9 Twilight, starswirl, celestia, Luna, Sombra, Chrysalis(with power of love) Shining armor(Shield spell only)
LV5: Discord
LV6: Twilight (superalicorngodsuperalicorn), Tirek(with power of the entire Country)
LV7: Tirek(withalicorn magic)
LV8: empty
LV9: Tree of harmony
Twilight and Starlight are Special cases, as they were both LV3 for the majority of the Show, even though their biology would have placed them in different Levels: Twilight was Always a LV4, she just supressed her power to LV3, while Starlight would have been a LV2 under normal circumstances, but can use her emotions to elevate herself to higher Levels.
As for the tree of harmony, i think at this Point not much is even able to match its power, with its ability to predict the future, being able to copy any spell in the universe, and execute it at even higher proficiency than the original, being able to exist without a Body, and its magic being unblockable and undrainable (unless it wants it too as part of a bigger plan)

For those playing at home, the Arceus vs. Rattata thing is actually vaguely possible. It won't work against Extreme Killer Arceus though, and that's already the best one. (Arceus-Ghost also no-sells the FEAR strategy, at least if you're using an actual Rattata)

Yes, but it was just an example. Discord seems all-powerful, cause he understands magic (the game rules) better than anyone else, and can exploit every loophole he finds, but he cant violate the most Basic principles, like the law of equivalent Exchange, or cast spells in a no-magic zone. He also isnt all-knowing, even though he wants you to believe otherwise.
Remember when Bigmac broke up with sugarbelle? When spike called for "captain wuss", he appeared, as if he heard it, but he didnt know WHY he was called. I think, he cast a spell on Bigmac and spike, so he gets "notified" whenever they call him by his game Name. He might have cast that spell on Luna and Celestia, so whenever theyd plan something against discord, he instantly knows, and can be one step ahead of everyone. He even mentioned "being turned to Stone, doesnt Keep me from Hearing every word celestia says"
Something similiar happened in Harry potter, several times: In the seventh book, Voldemort turned his own Name into a spell, so if anyone on the entire planet mentions it, instead of calling him you-know-who, he instantly knows, and can dispatch death eaters to the exact Location. Or when ron left the Group, and was summoned back by the deluminator. And although not directly stated, that would explain, why dumbledore seemed to know so much. Like how in the second book, fawkes just "happened" to appear in the chamber, after Harry mentioned dumbledores Name. I´m Pretty sure Dumbledore magically wiretapped a lot of People, thats why he can appear, whenever the plot Needs him to.

Yes, with his magic. Which Tirek had already eaten by the time Discord realized what was going on. That's what I'm saying: Discord is powerful enough that you can't afford to let him act. His first couple of defeats were due to not realizing his opponent had a win button that overrode his own, and his third was due to realizing they did but going in anyway because Fluttershy was in danger. (Between that, having to be talked down from literally killing himself to please her, and the whole "Twilight will not outlive her friends" thing that Rainbow Dash ensures has nothing to do with aging, I feel very comfortable shipping Fluttercord)

Sure, you could say that Discord's defeats were all barely done by the skin of the teeth. ...Or you could just say he's not that powerful.
I'm leaning toward the latter, since he doesn't really do anything all that impressive. Entertaining, yes. But the most power he showcases is brainwashing a few ponies.
