You'll find, my friend, that in the gutters of this floating world, much of the trash consists of fallen flowers.

    Haze's Haunted School for Haiku

Long ago in an ancient era, I promised to post my own advice guide on writing haiku, since I'd written a couple for a story. People liked some of them, so maybe I knew a few things that might be helpful. And I really wanted to examine some of the rules of the form, how they're used, how they're broken.

Studio Ghibli, Part 1: How Miyazaki Directs Slapstick

I used to think quality animation entirely boiled down to how detailed and smooth the character drawings were. In other words, time and effort, so it's simply about getting as much funding as possible. I blame the animation elitists for this attitude. If not for them, I might've wanted to become an animator myself. They killed all my interest.

    Can't think of a title.

For years, every time someone says "All Lives Matter" I'm reminded of this quote:

I first heard of this from that weird 90s PC game

Not long ago I discovered that archive.org has free videos of every episode from Connections: An Alternative View of Change.

    fairness

This is a good video (hopefully it works in all browsers, GDC's site is weird) about fairness in games. And by extension, stories.

Preferences are preferences, but some of them are much stronger than that. Things that feel wrong to us. Like we want to say, "that's not how stories should go!"

Bronycon Traditions · 7:38am Jul 14th, 2019

I've been going to Bronycon since 2015, the year of the largest attendance record. The last one ever is less than a month away. We should honor it by following some of the strange traditions I've accumulated over the years.

some of these are not actually traditions, but by me pretending they are, they become so

Escape Room

A few blocks away from the harbor, at Charm City Clue Room. We had a group of 8 last year and did the Edgar Allan Poe room, narrowly solving the last puzzle with less than 1 minute left on the clock. We're gonna do it again! Obviously we're not doing the Poe room again. If you want to join our adventuring party, be sure to ask one of us if there's a spot open!

Last year CCCR hosted a free escape room within Bronycon itself, and if they do so again I recommend trying that out with some friends. It's free and you don't have to walk several blocks. But there's a possibility they only did that last year because literally nobody was going to Bronycon in the past few years, total ghost town, and this year literally everyone in the fandom is going again so maybe there's no spare activity rooms for them to set up. Too bad(!/?)

Notice how 2 paragraphs up I didn't even specify who any of "us" are. That's your first puzzle to figure out for the Hunter Exam.

Fallen Writers' Dinner

Every year the fanfic writers have a huge dinner party together. I never go because I've been banned for life (okay not really, I just wanted to impress you). So instead me and Axis have our own better dinner party for us outcasts, happening at another restaurant the same time!

It's better because very few people go, and we're bad at dealing with crowds and noise, so we prefer this way. That's about it. If you're also that type of person, you're welcome to join.

If way too many people are joining, then by necessity to avoid crowds we must splinter off and become the Fallen Fallen Writers.

Board Games

I like board games. Oink Games are designed to fit in these tiny boxes the size of a cigarette pack, so I'll carry a bunch of those around with me.

KKona Grill

Every year we wait like an hour for the waiter to deliver us overpriced, mediocre sushi. I don't like this place. Let's never do this tradition again.

Look, I understand Baltimore harbor is packed at dinner time, especially with the con going on, but if I'm gonna wait that long then I'd rather be sitting at Cheesecake Factory. Which just happens to be nearby. :raritywink:

Sleeping!

Even though the Harbor is warm and humid enough to sleep outside on the sidewalk at night, a better tradition is to sleep in a comfortable room. In other words, if you don't have a room booked yet, contact Axis of Rotation, he might be able to help.

I've met the homeless who sleep on the sidewalk there. They're not the same people who beg for money during the day.

Bronycon Bookstore

Just kidding I don't have a book. If you want, I'll write a haiku on a post-it note instead.

Other People's Traditions

I hear other people do fun stuff at the convention too, like room drinking parties, and rave dancing. Let's appropriate their traditions because why not. I just need to figure out what they are first....

adds Haze to the list of people I need to kill meet at bronycon.

I indeed don’t have a room booked yet

I totally want a haiku on a post-it note

I'm down for escape room-age, if the schedule stars align.

I would also very much enjoy the fallen writers' dinner, because I've attended the writer's dinner twice and disliked it both times for exactly the reasons you cite.

I'll save a spot for you on each!

We're still waiting for Bronycon to post their schedule, so we can reserve an escape room timeblock that won't interfere with something exciting. Possibly that'll be Sunday when the con ends, but we'll see.

When is the Escape Room?

5092129
probably sunday..... when everyone's hungover

5092242
Can I escape with you :3

5092312
trust me and we will escape from the city

it's a little disorganized, and I suspect some people will say "yes" but not show up, so whoever we wrangle up that day is who will join
