    River City Equestria Girls?

Seriously, that's Pinkie Pie on the left, and Rainbow Dash on the right. Tell me I'm wrong.

I will not write a fanfic about the two of them getting into all the fights.

    Probably.

An "I don't have livejournal anymore" sort of update.

    It snowed yesterday.

Which just reminded me how much I don't like winter. It wasn't even a bad snow, just enough of a dusting to linger for a little bit. First one of the season. And I even had the day off from work, due to my schedule, so it's not like I had to do anything ...

    So I didn't.

    Happy Halloween!

So yeah. Despite various distractions (Steam had Darkest Dungeon for UNDER FOUR BUCKS), I've managed to hammer out a ridiculously shippy conclusion to the self indulgent Rarijack story I started.

So that's fun? I gave myself a deadline to finish things on Oct 31, so that's what I did, dangit. Hopefully you guys will enjoy.

Tumbleweed vs. The Last Crusade · 12:16am Jun 16th, 2019

Now, there's a spirited debate to be had over whether The Last Crusade is better than Raiders of the Lost Ark. I think a lot of it boils down to Sean Connery-- although now that I think about it, the tank chase is probably the best action sequence of the trilogy. (We do not talk about that Crystal Skull flick).

Er, wait. Ponies.

So yeah, this was ... alright? I mean, it addressed an issue that comes up pretty often for actual children "your parents got a new job, so you've got to move." Hell, I went through something similar when I was a kid, albeit without the assistance of pony cartoons, so ... yeah, I dunno where I'm going with this.

On the other hand, this episode also utterly debunked/de-canoned any number of "Scootaloo is a Dickensian orphan who lives in a box" fanfics, so ... good for that? I never was a huge fan of the CMC to begin with. I mean, they're entertaining enough, but I'm more interested in other characters. I mean, hell, last week's episode starred a bunch of second-tier ponies, and it was HILARIOUS. Maybe I just prefer grown-up ponies doing stupid things because they can get into even more trouble. Still, it's neat to see the writers wrapping up loose ends and answering questions like that. Plus, it helps that Scootaloo's parents are freaking rad. Seriously one of these days I'd love to write a fic where they hang out with Daring Do while Rainbow Dash looks on and fangirls out over everything.

Oh, and I understand there was something of a to-do about Scootaloo's lesbian aunts-- though after all the build up, they were just kind of ... there. Which honestly is for the best, as gay people, y'know, exist without it being a big, self-congratulatory deal. Representation matters! Though there was the faintest hint of deniability for those stick-in-the-muds who insist Lyra & Bon-Bon are just "best friends." Or something. So, uh, I guess the episode might still be legal to watch in Russia. Balancing acts, and all that. Which has got me wondering if the Russian brony contingent are dirty shippers like the rest of us. HMMM.

What it really boils down to is that I don't really expect canon Rarijack smooching in the finale.

... that's what the final Equestria Girls special is for. When's that air, anyway?

INDY, THEY'RE DIGGING IN THE WRONG PLACE!!

Raiders is a good, solid flick (we do not talk about Temple either), but I absolutely love Crusade. I think you may be on to something there with Connery; the strained father/son dynamic he and Ford had really sold the film to me. The first time I saw it with my da (with our respective bowls of popcorn and cans of Irn-Bru), I hugged him and told him "Love you da" after that ending.

I've gotta watch this one again:

Because I'm still not quite sure I understand Scootaloo's living arrangements. Her aunts have been staying in her parents' house in Ponyville all this time, but her aunts also have another house a few train stops away? And her aunts are going to spend the weekend at their other house...why again?

It just seems like the script could've used another run through the word processor, as it were.

Mike

Oh, come on, everyone knows Putin is a huge Flutterdash shipper.... because he's complete trash.

Yeah, I didn't know what to think about this one. All that flag waving about the aunts ahead of time... and it turned out to be more about why having Steve Irwin as your dad would suck.

And that climax felt like a cutting room floor reject from Silver Quill's appreciation day video series. Just without the jossed hippogriff narrator.

What it really boils down to is that I don't really expect canon Rarijack smooching in the finale.

Honestly, if we DO get a Rarijack smooch in EQG, I know SEVERAL people who are going to freak. And it will be hilarious.

5075184 I also vote Crusade, partially because Raiders has Indy just straight up robbing the local natives while the "bad guy" gets their permission to take the artifact, and partly because all Indy really did in the first movie was collect an ark and get it shipped to a warehouse.

I think Scootaloo lives all alone in her house but is sat by her aunts or whoever is free that day.

NOT THAT JONES, THE OTHER JONES!

The minutes before the intro seem to imply that there's a procession of adults that sit for her and the house. Although the aunts are very frequent.

It just seems:

An odd arrangement to me, I guess. Why the rotating cast of caregivers at a house in Ponyville when the aunts have their own house not far away where Scoot could've been living for all these years without inconveniencing a large set of the neighbors? I mean, the writer's making this all up--she simply could've had the house in Ponyville be the aunts' house. Why add the complication of another house and a procession of adults when they don't serve any purpose in the story?

That Nit-Picking Mike Guy :twilightsheepish:

The Aunts' house seems to be kind of in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around them but trees and a fence. They're close enough to a train station that the CMC took one to reach them, so they're not hermits or anything, but it doesn't seem like there's a town or community. Things Scootaloo would need, like school, a nearby hospital, and kids her age.

Howard, today's episode totally made me think of your comment. That's kind of an issue they address!

#Caballeron did nothing wrong.

5124785
#Ahuizotl did nothing wrong!

5124796 Honestly, the only thing wrong with this otherwise wonderful episode was the ending. I get that this is a kid's cartoon, and they are trying to wrap everything up with a nice ending...

But are we really supposed to believe that an author who is an expy for George RR Martin was able to get a sequel to his first novel out so quickly? It's straining my credulity.

I'm totally stealing this joke.
